To mesupercell

It’s a quiet, profound song that feels like a letter to one’s past self.

The delicate lyrics woven by ryo of supercell and the simple arrangement featuring only piano accompaniment resonate deeply with listeners.

Through a dialogue with oneself, the piece portrays the importance of growth and self-acceptance, and it was released in March 2011.

It’s a fitting track to close out the album “Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari.” I recommend it to those who feel uneasy in a new environment or who want to reflect on past choices.

It may strike an even deeper chord when listened to during spring—the season of farewells and new beginnings.

With composer ryo at the helm, supercell is a collective of creators including designers and illustrators.

One of the songs they produced, “Katsukakusho Uta Awase,” has a distinctly Japanese flair.

It drew attention when it was selected as the opening theme for the anime Katanagatari.

The vocals are by Koeda, a singer-songwriter from Fukuoka.

The song features signature phrases throughout, making you want to replay each section.

Its easy-to-listen-to melody and catchy structure are also appealing.

Silver Airshipsupercell10rank/position

This is the sixth single by supercell, a creative collective composed of illustrator and designer members centered around composer ryo, without a designated vocalist.

Selected as the opening theme for the animated film “Psychic School Wars,” the track features a piano- and strings-driven arrangement with a spacious depth that truly evokes the image of a silver airship drifting in the sky.

By minimizing the number of instruments and notes, its transparency stands out—an exceptional number that, despite spanning seven minutes, never feels long.

#Love feat. Ann, gakusupercell11rank/position

A single by supercell, released in September 2019.

The song is a duet, performed by two vocalists: Ann (female) and gaku (male).

These two were reportedly selected in a previous supercell vocal audition.

Apparently, this is the first time supercell has featured a male vocalist.

At first listen, some might wonder, “Where’s the falsetto in this song?” but I think Ann’s gentle singing in sections like the A-melody skillfully uses mixed voice to falsetto.

Since it’s a duet, it might be a bit tricky to pick for karaoke, but please give it a try!

Supercell’s 2011 release “Revenge” possesses an eerie beauty where deeply sunken emotions and delicate melodies intertwine exquisitely.

Centered on complex feelings, the track delivers both unease and thrill to the listener at once.

The lyrics, tightly binding past wounds with vows for the future, create a spine-chilling tension that is sure to pierce the heart of anyone who listens.

Packed with Supercell’s distinctive sound and worldview, this song is perfect for late-night listening while lost in solitary thought.

Known as one of Hatsune Miku’s signature songs, “Melt” is a hit written and composed by ryo of supercell, released in 2007 and since covered by many singers.

It’s a love song packed with a girl’s cute, one-sided crush, capturing the emotional ups and downs sparked by even the smallest things the other person says or does—something anyone currently in unrequited love will surely relate to! The lyrics have a sense of excitement, and the bouncy melody even gives off a spring-like vibe.

Ex-Otogibanashiryo (supercell) & tsukimi yachiyo (hayami saori)14rank/position

A song written by ryo (supercell) and voice actor Saori Hayami as the theme for the Netflix film “Ultra Princess Kaguya!” True to its world set in the neon-lit virtual space “Tsukuyomi,” it creates a soundscape that fuses traditional Japanese sentiment with futuristic digital sounds.

ryo’s signature, story-rich melodies intertwine with Hayami’s noble, clear vocals in character as Yachiyo Tsukimi, drawing listeners into a fantastical tale.

Released in January 2026, it’s ryo (supercell)’s first work under that name in about three years and nine months since the single “Takt.” It’s a track you’ll want to hear not only when lingering in the afterglow of the film, but also if you’re seeking a dramatic musical experience.
