My GirlThe Temptations21rank/position

The Temptations are a soul chorus group from the United States that was active in the 1960s.
They skyrocketed in popularity with My Girl, released in 1964.
Even if you don’t usually listen to soul music, you’ve probably heard it—it’s that big of a worldwide hit.
The year after its release, it reached No.
1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it was used as the theme song for the 1991 film of the same name.
With its easy-to-listen-to melody, it’s recommended even for those who don’t typically listen to Black music.
1999Prince22rank/position

An explosive electro-funk anthem emblematic of the ’80s, this shocking track by Prince blends powerful, anti–nuclear proliferation lyrics with the innovative sounds of the Linn LM-1 drum machine to captivating effect.
Released in 1982, it marked a turning point in Prince’s career and earned attention as he became one of the first Black artists to be aired on MTV.
Its dancefloor-igniting groove and melody that evokes hope for the future continue to move listeners to this day.
Bring It On Home to MeSam Cooke23rank/position

In the history of soul music, sadly, legendary singers who passed away young are not few, and Sam Cooke, the subject of this article, is one of them.
Having met a tragic end at the age of just 33, Cooke possessed striking good looks, a natural singing voice, and a distinctive vocal style, with which he produced many hit songs from the late 1950s to the early 1960s.
More than just a musician, he was highly conscious of racial issues: he founded a music publishing company and a record label to manage the rights to his own works and to protect the rights of Black musicians, and he was actively involved in the civil rights movement.
The influence Cooke exerted on later artists thus extended far beyond musical style.
One notable example is his 1962 release and hit “Bring It On Home to Me,” which was covered just three years later by the British rock band The Animals and, in the same year, by fellow Britons The Zombies—evidence that the song was embraced by white groups from the start.
Since then, countless artists and bands have covered it, and it has become a famous standard number that continues to be loved across generations.
Cooke himself wrote both the lyrics and the music, and the song’s beautifully wistful melody has never lost its luster—once again highlighting Cooke’s outstanding talents as a songwriter.
You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)Sylvester24rank/position

This is a classic by the American singer Sylvester, whose soaring, gospel-rooted falsetto and shimmering synths make your whole heart want to dance.
Bursting with powerful, joyous energy that seems to declare with every fiber, “Being my true self is this wonderful!”, the song gently frees the listener’s spirit.
Released as a single from the album Step II in October 1978, it set a record by topping the U.S.
dance chart for six consecutive weeks.
It was also used in the TV show Friends.
When you want to let go and have pure fun, listening to this track gives you a mysterious kind of courage—as if it affirms every version of who you are.
Take on Mea-ha25rank/position

From an intro that wildly chops a tight 8-beat, this track flows into that melody you’ve probably heard before.
While the synth melody in the intro is famous, it’s also a solidly danceable disco song whose beautiful vocals are a major draw.
The sweet, beautiful singing voice matches intriguingly well with the driving, high-velocity beat, making it a very compelling listen.
