Yuzu, a folk duo from Kanagawa, has a song called “Hokousha Yuusen” (Pedestrians First) with exhilarating, soaring high notes.

The Pocky commercial that featured this song starred actress Satomi Ishihara, and the student coming-of-age storyline together with the song’s vibe conveys Pocky’s healthy image.

Also, there was a service at the time called “My Pocky,” where photos you took with your own camera could become the Pocky package—so those who remember it might feel a bit nostalgic!

A cover of Kyu Sakamoto’s 1963 hit, it’s a song you want to listen to as summer ends and the scent of autumn begins.

Yuji Kitagawa rearranged the melody and lyrics, and their pop sound, which brilliantly dyes this masterpiece among masterpieces in their own colors, is bringing fresh emotion.

As a tribute to the original, everyone—Yuzu, the staff, and the studio musicians—took part in the recording in formal attire.

A song produced as an after-story set 17 years after the classic “Sakuragicho,” which captured the hearts of many in 2004.

Against the backdrop of scenery such as Sakuragicho and the Bay Bridge, a reflective, sentimental look back on a past love is sung over emotional harmonies.

The track is also included on the album “PEOPLE” and was released on June 2, the same date as the original.

The music video drew major attention as Satomi Ishihara made her first appearance in 17 years.

“SEIMEI” was released in 2019 as Yuzu’s 15th single and drew attention as it was also used in a Nippon Life commercial.

As the title suggests—meaning “life”—the song celebrates the wonder of living, conveying the idea that the light of life passed down from our ancestors to us should now be handed off like a baton to the future.

From the lyrics, you sense that everyone is supported by something unseen and immense, and that the limits we can’t seem to cross are often ones we set ourselves.

It offers a perspective that makes you realize the preciousness of life—one that can be easy to overlook.
