An insert song from Tangled. Introducing the English version, Japanese version, and covers.

Disney’s 2010 film Tangled.

It’s a masterpiece that follows Rapunzel, a golden‑haired girl living in a tall tower, and lets you experience the thrill and emotion of adventure.

In this article, we’ll introduce all of Tangled’s theme songs and insert songs.

We’ll list both the English titles and their Japanese counterparts, and for songs with lyrics, we’ll also feature the Japanese versions.

It might be fun to compare the English and Japanese versions side by side.

We’ve also picked out some artist covers, so please take your time and enjoy.

May J., who has covered many Disney songs, also had a huge breakthrough with Frozen.

Did you know that she actually covered “I See the Light” from Tangled with Yamato Miura? Both of them have very beautiful voices—this one is highly recommended too.

Rapunzel of the Tower: Prologue

The song that plays in the scene where Mother Gothel regains her youth by brushing young Rapunzel’s hair.

In the English version, it is sung by Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel and Delaney Rose Stein as young Rapunzel, while in the Japanese version it is performed by Yuki Tsurugi and Sumire Morohoshi.

It deftly portrays the relationship between Mother Gothel, Rapunzel’s adoptive mother, and the young Rapunzel.

Alan Menken’s beautiful melody and emotionally rich lyrics captivate audiences and won’t let go.

It’s recommended not only for fans of the film but also for anyone who loves Disney music.

This is the song that plays during the story’s ending.

The ruffians who became friends realize their dreams, Rapunzel returns to the kingdom to become a princess, and she marries Flynn Rider.

Each character’s personality comes through in the short melodic lines, so I recommend listening with earphones or headphones to catch the finer details.

Rapunzel on the Tower: “The Magic Flower”

It’s the song that draws out Rapunzel’s mysterious hair power.

When she sings, her hair glows and can heal wounds.

Until now, she was forced to sing to keep the wicked witch Gothel young.

After venturing into the outside world, the song plays when she uses it as a light or to heal injuries, but the final time she sings it is very sad and deeply moving.

Shoko Nakagawa – Tangled: 'Rapunzel' Song Medley
Door to FreedomNakagawa Shoko

In the dubbed version, Shoko Nakagawa voiced Rapunzel, but the singing was actually done by Mari Kobiki.

That said, Shoko Nakagawa has also covered “When Will My Life Begin?” and performed it herself! Her powerful vocals beautifully capture Rapunzel’s longing for freedom.

The cover is included on her 2011 album “Shokotan Cover 4-3,” and she has performed it at her own concerts as well.

The lyrics vividly depict Rapunzel’s daily life while conveying her curiosity about the outside world, leaving a strong impression.

It’s a perfect song for anyone who feels something is missing from their everyday routine.

Sing along and listen—maybe you’ll take your first step into a new world, too!

Tangled – Mother Knows Best (Reprise) [Japanese]

In this reprise of “Mother Knows Best,” Gothel’s spite and arrogance are expressed much more strongly.

It also feels like Gothel herself is short on magical power and has aged a bit—her voice sounds raspier, lacking vigor.

I can’t wait for that light.

This is the song that plays in the scene where Rapunzel waits for the mysterious lights that appear on her birthday—the ones she has always dreamed of.

It’s a curious piece of music that intertwines the joy of a long-held dream about to come true and the impatience to see it soon, with the anxiety of wondering, “What if it disappoints me?”
