loveHoshino Gen

Gen Hoshino’s hit number “Koi.” It became a nationwide smash in Japan after being used as the theme song for the popular drama “We Married as a Job” (Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu).
Although it’s been quite some time since its initial success, it’s been experiencing a resurgence lately through Instagram Reels.
It’s often used in reels that depict everyday life with a partner, linking with the song’s theme.
If you’d like to save date memories—such as anniversaries—in a reel, be sure to check it out.

The Jonas Brothers are a pop-rock band formed by siblings.
They may not be a band that dominated the year with an overwhelming hit, but they still release one or two songs each year that could be called mega-hits, so even middle schoolers are probably familiar with them.
Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is Waffle House.
Its lyrics portray running toward your dreams together with people who trust you.
The theme is relatable for middle schoolers as well, so be sure to check out the Japanese translation too.
3:03 PMsharou

Let me introduce the BGM “3:03 PM,” which you often hear on video-based social media like Instagram.
It’s a track released by the creator Sharo, who posts instrumental music on YouTube and elsewhere.
Featuring a lo-fi hip-hop vibe with sampled water drop sounds, it creates a chill atmosphere.
It pairs perfectly with casual, everyday-life posts.
By the way, Sharo has produced many other chill tracks as well—definitely worth checking out.
calm (of the sea), lull; Nagi (a Japanese given name)Marushii

Introducing “Nagi” from the album Candle by Marcy, a rock band hugely popular among teens and people in their twenties.
This ballad portrays a man who has gone through a breakup, reminiscing about the days he spent with his former lover.
The song expresses his deep regret, making it truly heart-wrenching.
The title “Nagi” refers to a calm sea with no waves or wind, which can be interpreted as representing the quiet days after his lover is gone.
Be sure to watch it together with the music video featuring Hoshi Matsukawa.

Only GirlStephen Sanchez

The song “Daylight,” which became a massive hit in 2023 through platforms like TikTok and Instagram, is by David Kushner, who also worked as a TikToker.
The lyrics contain many religious nuances.
While they are complex, the main theme is essentially that, just as shadows exist because there is light, everything has both a dark side and a good side.
For emotionally sensitive junior high school students, lyrics like these are likely to resonate.
cardiganTaylor Swift

Taylor Swift, a singer-songwriter who is extremely popular in Japan as well.
If you’re part of the younger generation, you’ve probably heard her songs at least once.
While her early work focused on country music and her mid-career centered on dance-pop, she has recently been releasing mainly moodier, downtempo tracks.
“cardigan” is a piece that showcases this new style, wrapped in a subdued, nature-evoking sound.
It’s recommended for those who want to post stylish daily-life reels.
Take TwoBTS

BTS’s “Take Two” features a moving melody and lyrics with a strong message, making it an ideal track for Instagram Reels.
The members’ journey and their hopes for the future, woven over an uplifting beat, add color to our daily lives and further enhance the content of posts.
When used as background music for Reels, users can be expected to expand their scope of self-expression through the song’s positive energy.
