Rekishi’s Greatest and Popular Songs (21–30)
love Benkeirekishi

The song is about Ushiwakamaru waiting for Benkei.
It’s a love song about waiting for Benkei with affection.
Same with Imoko Now, but there are oddly a lot of male–male love song themes.
Still, since Ushiwakamaru has a somewhat androgynous image and Benkei has a rugged, masculine image, it actually fits surprisingly well.
Peri-dancingrekishi

This is a song with a Perry-opening-Japan gag theme.
It also brings to mind old disco tracks.
The chorus is in Japanese, but it has that exquisite quality of sounding a bit like English.
This approach overlaps a little with Dansman’s style, but Rekishi is great in his own right.
GET A NOTErekishi

This track was included on the single “S & G,” released in 2018, and was also used as the ending theme for the anime GeGeGe no Kitaro.
The contrast between its stylish sound and the music video is really nice.
The Law of Perpetual Private Ownership of Newly Cultivated Lands (Emperor Shōmu’s 743 edict)rekishi

The guest is Sambomaster.
It’s a super handy song that lets you memorize the year of the Handen Shuju no Hō (the law allowing permanent private ownership of reclaimed land) along with the music.
I honestly think it would’ve been really helpful to have a song like this when I was a student.
The song itself has a ballad feel and, for some reason, it’s one that can move you to tears.
Imouto Now feat. Mouse Kid JIROKICHIrekishi

Kohei Dojima, famous for Katsushika Rhapsody from Kochikame, participated as a guest.
The song’s story is a love tale about someone who doesn’t realize that Ono no Imoko is actually a man.
In the end it turns into a “he’s a guy, but it doesn’t matter” gay punchline.
The track is blatantly inspired by Godiego, and at the end they even straight-up sing those lyrics.
Sayonara Colorrekishi

Listening to this song, I feel like many people’s lives may have changed—those who started something new, those who decided to part ways even though it was hard, and those who found the courage to set off on a journey.
It’s a wonderful song that makes you want to reaffirm your own feelings.
Sparkling Samurairekishi

While rooted in the concept of Japanese history, Rekishi’s songs are poppy and catchy, infused with elements from various genres that make them intriguing.
The rhythm has a buoyant, bouncy feel, and the lyrics are unique—altogether a track that’s fun and uplifting.
