NoodlesSHREZZERS

Shredders is a young, technically inclined progressive metal/post-hardcore band from Russia that released their debut album, Relationships, in 2019.
You might be wondering, “What does this have to do with saxophone?”—but the truth is, this band is unusual in that it actually has a saxophonist as a full-time member! Most importantly, their sound features the saxophone to a striking degree, and first-time listeners will likely be surprised at how tastefully and seamlessly the instrument is woven into the band’s ensemble.
The track introduced here is a gem that was released after they finished their first tour of Japan—one could even say it was dedicated to their Japanese fans.
The bold, soaring saxophone from the intro alone is something you should experience, even if you’re not typically into this genre.
It might just change the way you think about the saxophone!
JiLL’s blueJiLL-Decoy association

JiLL-Decoy association is a band that has won popularity for its sophisticated musicality.
They mix genres like soul, funk, R&B, and jazz; while they lean somewhat toward jazz, they’re highly regarded by devoted fans and critics alike as one of Japan’s leading neo-soul bands.
Their track “JiLL’s blue” is one of their signature songs.
Although the saxophone doesn’t take a strong lead, the overall arrangement is excellent, allowing the strengths of each instrument to stand out.
Moon RiverHenry Mancini

It’s the theme song from the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, also famous for being sung by the lead actress, Audrey Hepburn.
Known as a popular standard, it has been covered by numerous musicians across rock, pop, jazz, and more, so it’s a song you’re likely to hear very often.

I won’t lose!BARBEE BOYS

BARBEE BOYS, formed in 1982.
They’re a compelling band with male–female twin vocals, plus the added wildcard of male vocalist KONTA’s saxophone.
They broke up due to issues with their agency, but have been active again since 2018.
KONTA also plays other instruments and works as an actor, so it’s not as if he lives only for the sax, but his sax playing seems to add just the right spice to the band.
I hope they keep sharing their band sound with us for a long time to come.
SpainChick Corea & Return to Forever

Composed by Chick Corea in 1972 and included on his band Return to Forever’s album, this piece remains hugely popular among jazz musicians today.
Not only instrumentalists but many vocalists also perform it with added lyrics.
Its driving feel suits the saxophone particularly well, and with so many saxophonists having recorded it, it’s fun to compare different versions.
It’s also interesting that the second movement of the Concierto de Aranjuez is used as the introduction.
Forever In LoveKenny G

Kenny G is an American saxophonist who was one of the leading figures of smooth jazz in the 1980s.
Many people likely picked up the soprano saxophone inspired by his playing.
In addition to his own albums, he has appeared on records by prominent artists such as Whitney Houston, Natalie Cole, and Aretha Franklin, so it can be fun to seek out and listen for his distinctive tone there as well.
Midnight CityM83

When it comes to M83’s signature tracks that achieved global success from the French electronic scene, this is likely the song many people think of.
Released in July 2011, its lyrics strikingly portray the magic and solitude of the city at night.
For Anthony Gonzalez, the city is a sacred place, and exploring it becomes a journey toward deeper self-discovery.
The defining feature of this work is, without a doubt, the explosive saxophone solo in the latter half.
Performed by Ian Young, it’s emotional and dynamic, gripping listeners and never letting go.
Frequently used in film and television soundtracks, it’s a track you’ll want to listen to while walking through the city at night.
