Masterpieces and popular songs by SEKAI NO OWARI (SekaOwa)

Let me introduce some songs by the four-piece rock band SEKAI NO OWARI, also known as SekaOwa.

Their music features vocals with Auto-Tune and is captivating for its fantasy-filled soundscapes.

SekaOwa often stirs controversy—starting with remarks like “we don’t need guitars”—and they’re frequently criticized.

But you could also say they’re constantly pursuing a new style that doesn’t fit within the conventional boundaries of music.

While I introduced them at the outset as a rock band, in that sense it might be more accurate to describe them not as a band, but as an entertainment collective.

With that, please enjoy the music of the entertainment collective SEKAI NO OWARI.

IlluminationSEKAI NO OWARI

The song “Illumination” stands out with its classic J-pop melody.

It’s included on the 2019 album “Lips.” Around this album, SEKAI NO OWARI began broadening their musical range.

In fact, many listeners have likely found their songs more challenging since around 2019.

This track, however, avoids those concerns, featuring clear major-key melodies throughout.

The rhythm is very easy to follow, and there are hardly any high-register parts, making it very easy to sing.

Snow Magic FantasySEKAI NO OWARI

A quintessential winter song that was also used in a commercial.

As the title suggests, it’s about a spell cast on a snowy day, and its music video—set in a mysterious world—is strikingly fresh and memorable.

A story-driven track you’ll find yourself playing on repeat.

FantasySEKAI NO OWARI

The End of the World/Fantasy
FantasySEKAI NO OWARI

It’s a song filled with a poignant wish: to be the umbrella that protects you.

Included on the album “Entertainment,” released in July 2012, this track captured many hearts with its poppy, catchy melody and memorable lyrics.

The lyrics, which seem to draw listeners into a fantasy world, speak for those who want a brief escape from the pains of reality.

Fukase’s gentle vocals nestle close to the listener’s heart.

It’s a song that can give you courage when you’re going through hard times or feeling down.

It’s also perfect for singing along when you want to lift your spirits.

It’s a song written by SEKAI NO OWARI as a commissioned piece for the All-Japan Chorus Competition.

Using the indirect metaphor of a “present,” it powerfully conveys the reality of bullying among children, making it a striking, message-driven work.

The music video is also memorable.

Hey HoSEKAI NO OWARI

This work was created to support the Zero Animal Euthanasia Project.

It incorporates abundant Irish and marching elements, making it a peaceful piece befitting its theme.

If performed on the Kouhaku stage, the venue would instantly be enveloped in warmth and kindness.

ROBOSEKAI NO OWARI

SEKAI NO OWARI is a band that has remained popular since the 2010s, and they’ve been releasing a lot of stylish tracks lately.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is ROBO.

In terms of vibe, it’s similar to Nemuri Hime, but this track is arranged to be more chill and downbeat.

Their songs often span a wide vocal range, but this one is composed with a narrower range, making it easier for men to sing as well.

A track with a lively beat that showcases a fresh side of SEKAI NO OWARI.

Through the changing seasons, it carefully portrays the feelings of confronting the gap between expectations and reality and reexamining one’s inner self, resulting in lyrics that resonate deeply with listeners.

Released on May 10, 2024, it serves as the theme song for the drama “9 Border” starring Haruna Kawaguchi.

The piece not only marks the band’s musical evolution but was also unveiled in tandem with their large-scale arena tour, ARENA TOUR 2024 “Shinkai,” spanning 33 shows across 15 venues nationwide.

It’s a recommended song to keep close to your heart during life’s turning points or moments of doubt.
