It’s a song and march with lyrics by Daisuke Kaga and music by Yuji Koseki, released in 1948.

For many people, this is the tune that comes to mind when they think of high school baseball.

It has been performed by various singers, and this video features the Rimi Natsukawa version.

Although the lyrics use an old-fashioned style, the song is widely loved.

Ai Otsuka’s “Sakuranbo” is also a classic song that’s inseparable from high school baseball.

Its energetic, poppy, lively vibe is a perfect match for students in the thick of their youth.

It’s often performed by brass bands as a cheering song.

Among Linda Yamamoto’s many songs, the hugely popular classic “Neraiuchi” was released in 1973.

It has become a staple cheer song at high school baseball games.

TOMORROW Mayuo Okamoto

A classic by Mayo Okamoto that was chosen as the 1996 Senbatsu High School Baseball entrance march.

Every tear you’ve shed so far, and even the tears you’ll shed in defeat, will make you stronger.

It teaches us something important: that all of it connects to tomorrow.

The song mirrors the players who grow through each game, so listening while you watch makes its world open up even more.

By June 1969, records and flexi-discs of “Star of the Giants” had sold a total of 420,000 copies.

The piece that had initially been prepared as the top candidate featured a more contemporary melody and lyrics, but it received poor reactions from the sponsor side and others.

When they played the current song—thinking, “An old-fashioned song with this kind of image would never be accepted”—it reportedly won overwhelming support and was selected.

This song is the theme for “Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine,” a social game that passionately and vividly portrays youth, high school girls, and high school baseball.

Normally, high school baseball brings to mind a masculine image, but with high school girls taking the field here, it’s hot yet refreshing—intense yet cute—so I imagine many people will find themselves completely hooked.

In 2019, in the final Heisei-era Spring High School Baseball Tournament, “Donna Toki mo” was selected as a march alongside “Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana.” It’s a song with strong ties to baseball, having also been chosen as a march in 1992.

Its message—aiming to be the only one—perfectly aligns with the ethos of high school baseball.

It teaches the importance of what lies beyond winning and losing.
