A collection of summery songs: tracks that pair perfectly with summer—like the sea and the sky (181–190)
Heat haze of Augustmakaroni enpitsu

An energetic track by the rock band Macaroni Empitsu that feels like a burst of summer youth.
It starts with a calm atmosphere, as if quietly musing about summer, and the sound and vocals build in intensity toward the chorus, as though emotions are overflowing.
The lyrics convey feelings of suffering, evoking the sense of humid air, while also conjuring an image of shouting one’s emotions out toward the sea.
It’s a powerful song that races headlong through youth.
Ghost in the FlowersYorushika

A song by Yorushika that vividly evokes scenes of summer and youth, it was also used as the theme song for the film “A Whisker Away.” Centered on the tones of acoustic guitar and piano, and harmonized with electric guitar melodies that chime in like accents, it conveys not only bright, youthful imagery but also a tinge of wistfulness.
The lyrics, filled with words that evoke summer and youth, are striking as well, conjuring both the act of looking back on summer memories and the radiant, beautiful scenes of a clear summer day.
Slow & EasyHirai Dai

This is a sea-themed song by Dai Hirai, a singer-songwriter and ukulele player.
From the very start, the ukulele and flute alone conjure a calm seaside scene.
The lyrics, which evoke the pleasant coastal breeze and encourage a gentle, unhurried way of living, are memorable, and you can feel a vast kindness that embraces everything—like the ocean itself.
It’s a track where both the sound and the vocals convey a relaxed atmosphere, as if you’re feeling the wind by the ocean at sunset.
Ghost of the SeaYonezu Kenshi

A sea-themed song sung by singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu, written as the theme song for the film Children of the Sea.
Its mysterious sonic world is expressed through music: digital arrangements woven into a grand orchestral sound, vocals with a distinctive wavering created through processing, and more.
Throughout the track, it conveys a vast image, as if contemplating something so immense that it’s out of reach.
It’s a dramatic piece that powerfully stirs the emotions.
Crime and SummerKanjani∞

Kanjani Eight is an idol group that’s also hugely active on variety shows, armed with outstanding talk skills.
They’ve released numerous catchy, energetic songs, but the one I especially recommend is “Tsumi to Natsu” (“Sin and Summer”).
It creates a wild, summery vibe and, throughout, evokes a style reminiscent of Ulfuls.
It’s a perfect pick for anyone in the mood for a rock-flavored track.
Also, be sure to listen for Ryo Nishikido’s shouts!
BANG! BANG! Vacation!SMAP

SMAP’s classic hit “BANG! BANG! Vacance!” This song was released in 2005, and in the late 2000s you could hear it all over town every summer.
Its charm, above all, lies in its unique lyrics and staging.
The playful wordplay on the members’ last names, the comical imagery, and the live performance production all create a festive, quintessentially summer vibe.
The studio recording is great, of course, but the live versions are also a lot of fun—be sure to check them out.
I went to the sea.Saitō Kazuyoshi

Kazuyoshi Saito shot to prominence when his 2011 release “Yasashiku Naritai” became a massive hit.
“Umi ni Dekaketa” (“Went Out to the Sea”), included on his seventh album “COLD TUBE” released in 2000, is an acoustic tune featuring lyrics that beautifully portray the sea.
His emotional vocals pair exquisitely with the clear sound of the acoustic guitar, creating a strange sensation that makes you feel as if you’re standing right on the shoreline just by listening.
