Takashi Yu's masterworks and popular songs
Let me introduce some songs by singer-songwriter Yu Takahashi.
When it comes to Yu Takahashi, his song “Fukuwarai,” known for its warm, heartfelt lyrics, is especially famous.
He has a wide range of tracks, from ballads to slightly uptempo numbers, so please give this playlist a listen.
It’s said that in 2011, Yu Takahashi did a street performance in New York, and at that time he placed an opinion advertisement in The New York Times.
Apparently, he was the first to place such an opinion ad in The New York Times since Yoko Ono.

AXA Japan Group ONE AXA “Your Wind Direction” Version 60 SecondsTakahashi Yuu
This commercial aired around 2017 and features Masaki Okada as the main personality.
It’s staged as if capturing slices of various people’s lives, emphasizing that it’s insurance that stays close to your life.
The background music uses Yu Takahashi’s song “Rashinban” (Compass), and its passionate vocals and sound help create a moving atmosphere.
See You AgainTakahashi Yuu

When it comes to songs that let you face a farewell with someone important with warmth, “See You Again” comes to mind.
Singer-songwriter Yu Takahashi, known for delivering music that encourages listeners’ hearts, included the song on his 2010 release “Honto no Kimochi.” The lyrics, which depict a farewell scene with someone you wish you could stay with forever, are perfect as a message to a teacher who has cared for you over the past year.
His vocals, carried by a warm, acoustic guitar–driven band arrangement, convey a poignant emotion.
Why not express your feelings with this heartfelt track that sings of turning the loneliness and sadness of parting into hope?
The Sun and the FlowerTakahashi Yuu

The 11th single released in May 2014.
It was also the theme song for the medical drama “Alice no Toge,” in which Juri Ueno played a dark heroine.
The intro kicks off with a surge of electric guitar, giving it a bold vibe that screams, “This is the drama’s theme song!” And when it comes to Yu Takahashi’s true forte, it’s definitely the punchy lyrics.
In the lyric video, the words make a striking statement through an animation using torn pieces of paper.
Be sure to check that out too!
August 6Takahashi Yuu

Several dates appear in the lyrics, starting with “August 6,” which is also the song’s title.
According to an interview, Takahashi Yu turned important episodes from his own diary into this song.
It traces the course of a romance from its beginning to its end in chronological order, and just reading the lyrics alone tightens your chest.
This August 6, I definitely want to request this song on the radio!
Wonderful EverydayTakahashi Yuu

A landmark major-label debut single released in 2010.
From the melancholic piano in the intro, the song quickly surges in intensity.
With relentless lyrics that call out society’s contradictions, it stands as one of Yu Takahashi’s early signature tracks.
The monochrome music video further accentuates the song’s seriousness.
Yet from the chorus, the harmony shifts to brighter chords, culminating in a finale full of hope.
This arc, too, is a distinctive charm of Yu Takahashi that has been consistent since his early days.

Released in March 2014, it’s a double A-side single with “Tabibito” (Traveler).
Compared to the early period when guitars and piano were at the forefront, this track incorporates more of a band sound, giving the music a fuller, richer feel.
(Not that one is better—I like both!) The music video is also interesting, with text scrolling across the screen from the very beginning, sharing episodes from Yu Takahashi’s birth.
If you want to learn more about Yu Takahashi, the video is a must-see!
At the corner of the crowdTakahashi Yuu

A track that slices through the contradictions of modern society with a distinctive perspective.
Throughout the lyrics, you’re bound to stumble upon phrases that make anyone flinch a little.
The world is full of problems.
There’s no way we can love every single person.
But precisely because they wish for that more strongly than anyone else, they can create a song with this much power, don’t you think?
