SEX MACHINEJames Brown

This number was used as the theme song for the 2003 US Open Tennis.
The singer is James Brown, known as the “Godfather of Soul.” It’s a work whose appeal lies in its overwhelming energy, as if unleashing an impulse rising from within.
Released in 1970, this track is a landmark in funk history, and the classic album “Sex Machine,” which includes live recordings, was later released as well.
The fiery call-and-response between him and his backing band, The J.B.’s, feels like a team stoking each other’s morale.
It can sound like a powerful cheer for players psyching themselves up and heading to the court.
No matter how tough the moment, it’s sure to give you a push forward.
SoldierBackstreet Boys

The Backstreet Boys are a globally popular idol group.
Their song “Soldier” was used on the ATP Tennis World Tour in 2014 and 2015.
Among their catalog, it’s relatively on the minor side, so many of you may be hearing it for the first time.
Although it was released in 2013, the melody still feels completely fresh today.
It also features R&B phrases, so be sure to check it out!
Teenage WildlifeA.J. Mclean

This song, “Teenage Wildlife,” was used in the ATP Tennis World Tour held in 2013.
The vocalist is A.J.
McLean, a member of the world-renowned vocal group the Backstreet Boys.
It was released not long after he began putting out solo tracks, so while his skills were still developing, the energy is outstanding! The song features a dark, sexy melody that evokes the image of a young Adam Lambert.
swallowtail (butterfly)CORE OF SOUL

A pop-rock number by CORE OF SOUL with an exhilarating, piercing sense of speed that feels great.
Vocalist Fukko’s voice—combining clarity with power—flutters lightly like a butterfly, as if setting listeners’ hearts free.
The lyrics portray pure feelings for someone precious transforming into the strength to overcome hardships and take flight.
This straightforward emotion may also resonate with the image of athletes striving toward their goals.
Released as a single in January 2005, the song was used as the ending theme for WOWOW’s Australian Open Tennis 2005, and later included on the album “ONE LOVE, ONE DAY, ONE LIFE!” It’s a classic that, when played to sharpen focus before a match or in moments when you need that final push, is sure to draw out your best performance.
Shoot The MoonClique Girlz

Click Girls is a girls’ idol group centered on rock tunes.
Many of their songs are extremely catchy, so I think their melodies are easy for Japanese listeners to get into.
Their track “Shoot The Moon” was chosen as the theme song for the WTA Women’s Professional Tennis Tour Championships.
It’s pretty intense rock for an idol group, so it might come as a shock.

Aim for the Ace!Ōsugi Kumiko

Here is the theme song from a series that was serialized in a shōjo manga magazine from 1973 to 1975 and again from 1978 to 1980, and later adapted into an anime.
Just hearing this song—considered a forerunner of sports-driven, gutsy shōjo manga—may bring back fond memories for some.
Kumiko Osugi, who sang this track, also performed the theme song for the volleyball-themed TV anime Attack No.
1, which was a hit at the time, and she was celebrated in the 1970s as one of the “Four Kings of Anison.”
