Cool trap and future bass. Recommended bass music.

Trap and future bass are closely intertwined.

Tracing their lineage leads to hip-hop and dubstep.

Originally recognized as subgenres, trap and future bass rapidly evolved by actively incorporating elements of trending EDM.

In recent years, these genres have increasingly crossed over, with their sonic details being adopted in mainstream dance-pop as well.

This time, we’ll introduce popular and classic tracks from bass music, including trap and future bass!

For those who aren’t familiar with it, the trap and dubstep genre can feel intimidating.

In reality, though, it’s easy-to-listen-to EDM that emphasizes deep bass, so I recommend it.

“Formula” is a fairly orthodox piece, making it a good recommendation for listeners who aren’t used to trap and dubstep.

CASH COWNGHTMRE & Gunna

CASH COWNGHTMRE & Gunna

The collaboration song “CASH COW” by rapper Gunna and DJ Nightmare.

A cash cow is like what we call “a money tree” in Japan—something that keeps bringing in cash like a cow that gives money.

With that striking title, a slow, dark trap beat, and laid-back, composed rhymes, it’s a quintessentially Gunna track: supremely dope and grown.

MoveBlumBros & MAKJ

BlumBros x MAKJ – Move (Lyric Video) [Payday Records]
MoveBlumBros & MAKJ

“Move,” a dubstep number by the hip-hop duo Blum Bros.

The refrain of its striking melody heightens the track’s mysterious vibe, and the two rappers’ flows on top are exceptionally smooth.

Precisely because the track is simple, the development in the final few bars sounds dramatic.

If possible, it’s a song you’ll want to follow along with the lyrics as you listen.

Cool Trap & Future Bass. Recommended Bass Music (11–20)

Them Ft. Virus SyndicateVirus Syndicate, Eliminate

Here’s “Them Ft.

Virus Syndicate,” featuring the UK hip-hop crew Virus Syndicate.

It’s a track with an orthodox dubstep-hip-hop vibe that goes over well in the U.S., Japan, and Korea.

Recommended for fans of trippy tunes.

Fly (feat. Slimesito)Brodinski

This is the 2019 track Fly by French DJ Brodinski, known for his signature song Bad Runner, in collaboration with rapper SlimSet.

The arrangement has clear contrasts, with sections that highlight the beautiful synthesizer harmonies and others where the beat takes the lead to let the rap stand out.

It’s a track whose slightly strained-sounding rap is pleasing to the ear.

This is a track called “No Ceilings,” a collaboration between Los Angeles DJ Diamond Pistols and UK producer Tisoki, featuring rapper UnoTheActivist.

In the mellow sections, you get smooth, flowing rap, while in the intense parts, the dubstep explodes with exhilarating power.

Guap (LaLaLa)Rico Nasty

This cool track with powerful rap is “Guap (La La La),” released in 2018 by female rapper Rico Nasty.

Aside from the drum beat and bass, no other instruments are used; she samples her own voice and uses it as the track.

It’s a song where you can really feel her creativity as a musician.
