Practice pieces for beginner trumpet players
Speaking of the trumpet, it’s an instrument that shines across a wide range of genres—jazz, classical, pop—and it’s also a star among wind instruments in concert band.
Of course, daily practice is essential to be able to play, but if you only do fundamentals, it can get boring… For those feeling that way, I’ve picked some recommended practice pieces that are great even for beginners! Naturally, the difficulty will vary depending on the sheet music you choose, but the selection this time spans a variety of well-known tunes—from children’s songs to pop—that almost everyone has heard at least once, making it easier to get the hang of things.
I’ve included videos of actual trumpet performances wherever possible, so please use them as a reference!

Practice Pieces for Beginner Trumpet Players (31–40)
Mambo No. 5Perez Prado

Mambo No.
5 is a piece often performed by brass and jazz bands, and it’s a great song for practicing riding the rhythm and playing plenty of staccato.
When practicing alone, it can easily fall apart, but try starting with the main theme first, aiming to eventually play it together with a few different instruments.
Theme of ShotenNakamura Hachidai

The theme from “Shōten” is one of those pieces that a trumpet player who’s gotten a little better inevitably fools around with at least once.
If you’re going to do it anyway, practice properly and show everyone, “I’m playing it as a joke, but how about it? I can play it pretty well, right?”
Let’s decorate with holly.

“Deck the Halls” is one of the world’s best-known traditional Christmas songs.
Based on a Welsh folk tune, it captures the joyful atmosphere of people celebrating Christmas, yet when the tempo is slowed, it transforms into a solemn, majestic piece.
The melody stays largely within a single octave, making it easy to play—perfect for peace of mind! Highly recommended for beginner trumpet players who are choosing a piece for a Christmas recital.
Olympic Fanfare and Theme (Los Angeles)John Williams

I think the fanfare from “Olympic Fanfare and Theme” (Los Angeles Olympics) is one of those pieces every trumpet player wants to play at least once.
This video features an arrangement for advanced players, but there are many beginner-friendly sheet music versions of just the fanfare section available.
Why not try looking for one?
Tokyo Twinkle Fanfare Oi RacetrackTokyo Burasu Sutairu

Speaking of horse racing fanfares, the fanfare for the GⅠ at Nakayama Racecourse (composed by Koichi Sugiyama) is very famous.
If you choose that one, though, it can end up overlapping with other fanfares, so I’d actually recommend learning this Tokyo Brass Style version instead! They’re a fiery unit.
Practice Pieces for Beginner Trumpet Players (41–50)
Promise of SunflowersHata Motohiro

It’s ‘Himawari no Yakusoku’ by Motohiro Hata.
Performing with a karaoke backing track like in the video can be quite challenging, but there are scores arranged for beginners as well.
Why not look for one and give it a try? I think the chorus section feels really good to play.
Tetsuwan Atom – Astro BoyTakasai Tatsuo

The opening theme of Astro Boy features a familiar, easy-to-remember melody.
With few phrases and few high notes, it’s a piece that beginners can finish easily.
The key point in practice is to focus on firmly hitting the first note of each phrase.
