[United States] Greatest Hip-Hop Classics (1–10)
Big PoppaThe Notorious B.I.G.

Notorious B.I.G.
burst onto the East Coast hip-hop scene and earned fame with his overwhelming flow skills.
He’s also credited as a catalyst for modern G-funk and is known for being widely respected by many rappers for his charisma.
One of the tracks on his debut album is “Big Poppa.” In a sharp turn from G-funk, it became a historic hit with its smooth vocals and romantic lyrics.
If you listen to it alongside his other songs, the contrast is easy to hear.
In Da Club50 Cent

50 Cent, whose Super Bowl 2022 performance still feels fresh in our memories, is inseparable from the track In Da Club when talking about his career.
It’s a song included on his 2003 debut album, in which he sings about the success that’s about to build from there.
True to the lyrics, the track was nominated for a Grammy and became a historic hit.
By the way, the lyrics include slang and movie references, so it’s easier to understand if you look them up before listening.
HUMBLE.Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar is known for a style that blends hip-hop with elements of jazz.
The track that cemented his fame is HUMBLE.
It’s a song imbued with religious messages.
While the chorus is built around a repeated phrase, it’s crafted to be thought-provoking and open to various interpretations.
With its uniquely distinctive lyrics and artistic music video, it won three Grammys.
Many DJs have remixed it, so be sure to check those out as well.
Changes ft. Talent2Pac

Tupac, often said to be the world’s most well-known rapper, is 2Pac.
He’s also known for having his songs nominated for Grammy Awards and for his work as an actor.
A perfect song to get to know his character and background is “Changes” ft.
Talent.
The track tackles themes of racism and poverty.
It carries both the bleak realities and a message about making change.
It’s also helpful for understanding American culture of the time and life on the streets.
Straight Outta ComptonN.W.A

N.W.A, known for featuring Eazy-E, was a hip-hop group formed in Los Angeles.
They initially focused on the local scene, but when the title track of their debut album, “Straight Outta Compton,” hit the radio, they shot to stardom almost overnight.
There’s plenty to listen for, but start by paying attention to their extreme, aggressive lyrics.
The content is bold even by G-funk standards.
