Get the Crowd Going! A Collection of Fun Wedding and Reception Entertainment Ideas

It’s exciting to be asked by the bride and groom to put on a performance at their wedding reception or after-party!

But the more you want to make them happy, the harder it can be to decide what to do…

Key points to keep in mind for wedding entertainment are: avoid vulgar acts and overly inside jokes; aim for about 10 minutes; don’t exceed the allotted time; think of something the couple will genuinely enjoy; and above all, focus on “what will make the two of them happy.”

In this article, we’ll introduce entertainment ideas that convey your heartfelt congratulations!

We’ve also gathered ideas the bride and groom themselves can do, so be sure to read to the end!

The music video for Maroon 5’s “Sugar” features the band members making surprise appearances at weddings.

How about creating a video that imitates that concept, where you show up partway through and actually perform? Since Maroon 5’s songs are quite challenging, you could also arrange a different song instead.

A Shower of Happiness

Share a little happiness by tossing candy—introducing the “Happy Ame-Arare.” The groom or the bride throws candy toward the guests.

You can use all the same candies, but we recommend mixing in a few special “winning” pieces among them.

Have an extra gift ready for anyone who catches a winning candy.

That way, guests won’t just be grabbing sweets—they’ll enjoy it like a fun game.

Send lots of happiness along with the candy!

LINE-style movie

LINE-style movie

Let’s create a video that looks like an exchange of messages on LINE, sending congratulatory messages to the bride and groom! When you think of LINE’s chat screen, you imagine messages coming in steadily one after another, right? Just like that, we’ll pop celebratory messages onto the screen, and in the background, include photos or videos of the people who sent them to build the video.

If you check video sites, you’ll find lots of examples you can use as references—give it a try!

Cheerleading

Cheerleading

This one is especially recommended for those with cheerleading experience.

It’s a wonderful performance that lets you cheer on the newlyweds’ future with bright energy.

If you’re experienced, we suggest adding acrobatic and dynamic moves for a big, flashy impact! If you’re new or worried about being out of practice, combine simple, easy moves or dance with pom-poms to get the crowd excited.

In cheerleading, what matters most is energy and a smile.

Let’s light up the venue!

Balloon-Popping by Piggyback! Play This Game!

We put slips of paper with things we want the bride and groom to do inside balloons.

We prepare several of these and have the couple hug each other to pop the balloons.

Then we read out what’s written on the slip and have them do it.

For example, if one slip says, “Please say your proposal words here one more time,” it’s sure to get everyone excited!

La La Land-style movie

At a video production company, we turned a wedding reception performance into a La La Land-style surprise!

How about creating a La La Land-style video, like the movie that was a huge hit in Japan? If you recreate that iconic scene from the film, the venue is sure to erupt with excitement.

Be sure to synchronize the dance perfectly and fully embody the actress.

Hige Dance

The classic party act “Hige Dance” is fun for everyone, from kids to adults.

At a wedding reception where people of all ages gather, it’s sure to be an easy crowd-pleaser! Put on a black tuxedo, do the signature dance, and, like Kato Cha and Ken Shimura of The Drifters, try showcasing a variety of tricks as well!
