JO1 is an 11-member global boy group formed by the winners of the audition program PRODUCE 101 JAPAN.

Their song Our Season, included on their 2nd album KIZUNA and 5th single WANDERING, was selected as the main tree performance song for the Tokyo Dome City Winter Illuminations.

The lyrics, which evoke a message to someone you can’t forget even after parting, make you want to believe in Christmas miracles.

With its clear vocals and sound that color the winter scenery, it’s an emotional winter song.

Beyond the Night SkySMAP

When it comes to SMAP’s winter ballads, isn’t “Yozora no Mukō” the one that comes to mind? Released in 1998 as their 27th single, it features lyrics by Shikao Suga and composition by Yuka Kawamura.

It topped the Oricon singles chart and became SMAP’s first million-selling hit.

The lyrics, which look back on a past breakup, carry a certain sense of melancholy.

It’s a classic that has even been included in music textbooks since 2002!

White Winter Love。haji→

This is Haji→’s hugely popular winter song, loved for its distinctive voice that sticks in your head after just one listen and its familiar, sing-along melody.

It’s a track that expresses the frustration of not being able to convey your feelings to the person you love.

This is one of Kōmi Hirose’s signature songs, and she’s often called the Queen of Winter.

Her high voice really suits the season! Released in December 1995 as her seventh single, it became the theme song for a film of the same name.

Following “Romance no Kamisama” two years earlier and “Shiawase wo Tsukamitai” the year before, it was also used in commercials for Alpen, but compared to her previous works, it has a stronger winter-song flavor.

When it comes to the queen of winter songs, that would be Kōmi Hirose.

Her song “Romance no Kamisama” was released in 1993 as her third single and became a huge hit! Even though the lyrics aren’t about winter, it became beloved as a winter song after being used in a commercial for the ski goods store Alpen.

With its bright, energetic uptempo vibe, it’s also a love song that captures the everyday life of an office lady, and I think it’s sure to hype up the room if you sing it at karaoke during the event-filled winter season!

Shota Shimizu’s song “Before Winter Ends” is his 12th single, released in 2011.

It was also included on his fourth album, “Naturally,” released the following year, which reached No.

6 on the Oricon album chart.

The lyrics, written with long-distance couples in mind, really resonate.

In the music video, Shota Sometani and Nako Mizusawa portray a couple separated from each other, so be sure to check it out!

Silent EveKarashima Midori

A perfect heartbreak song for winter, it always plays around Christmastime and is considered a holiday staple.

Released as a single by Midori Karashima in 1990, it was used as the theme song for the TBS drama “Christmas Eve.” She wrote both the lyrics and music herself, and it became her biggest hit.

Even today, it’s still presented on TV and elsewhere as a timeless classic and one of the great songs of winter.
