[1980s] Legendary Western Rock Bands’ Famous and Hit Songs (111–120)
EpicFaith No More

Faith No More is an American band that rose to popularity from the late 1980s to the 1990s, presenting a genre-defying sound rooted in funk metal and crossover influences.
After the eccentric Mike Patton joined as vocalist, their third album, The Real Thing, released in 1989, became a major hit.
The track Epic from that album is a classic: its rap-style verses, melodic chorus, and funky groove are unbelievably cool.
Later released as a single, it climbed to No.
9 on the Billboard charts.
Serving as a kind of bridge to 1990s alternative rock, it’s a must-listen if you haven’t heard it yet.

You Made Me RealiseMy Bloody Valentine

It was in the early 1990s that they established the genre known as “shoegaze,” where beautiful melodies emerge from a wall of noise.
This track, You Made Me Realise, dates back to 1988, but it’s quintessentially shoegaze and was also the song that set them on the path to their breakthrough.
This flood of sound paired with the laid-back vocals—this contrast is irresistibly satisfying, making it one of the greatest masterpieces in rock history.
Teen Age RiotSonic youth

One essential 1980s rock band is Sonic Youth.
Their musicality, artwork, and ideas had a tremendous impact on the rock band boom of the ’90s.
While they’re categorized as alternative rock, they also released many experimental tracks with a fresh spirit aimed at upending the alternative scene.
Perhaps that’s one reason their work never seems to lose its luster.
The Queen Is DeadThe Smiths

The Smiths’ signature song, “The Queen Is Dead,” by the British band led by Morrissey and Johnny Marr.
The track appears on their third, self-titled album released in 1986.
The Smiths are regarded as a band that greatly influenced the alternative boom that would emerge in the 1990s.
Sunday Bloody Sunday-HQU2

A world-renowned rock band from Ireland.
This is their third single, a song themed around the 1972 “Bloody Sunday” incident that occurred in Ireland.
With this hit, the band became known worldwide.
It’s a work notable for the straightforward, hard-hitting lyrics that U2 excels at.
Digging Your SceneThe Blow Monkeys

In the UK during the New Wave era, many bands emerged with a style known as blue-eyed soul, influenced by Black music, and The Blow Monkeys are exactly one of those bands.
Their signature track, Digging Your Scene—featuring frontman Dr.
Robert’s unmistakably British, velvety vocals, a funky rhythm section, and irresistibly romantic sax—was released in 1986 and became a hit not only in their home country but worldwide.
It still sounds incredibly stylish today, and I think even young music fans can enjoy it with a fresh sense of discovery.
Born in the U.S.ABruce Springsteen

This is Bruce Springsteen’s hit song from 1984.
It sings about veterans returning from the Vietnam War.
The lyrics vividly portray soldiers who went to the front lines for their country, came back bearing various wounds, and were treated as nuisances in many places and met with harsh treatment after returning home.
Even though the events took place decades ago, the song’s content remains thought-provoking.
In contrast to those lyrics, the upbeat energy of the music and Springsteen’s powerful vocals have inspired the hearts of many listeners.
