1901Phoenix

Phoenix, the French rock band.

While they constantly produce works of overwhelming polish by crossing over a variety of sounds from around the world, it’s hard to pigeonhole them as simply electropop or synth-pop.

Here, though, we’re highlighting the 2009 release that catapulted their name to global recognition.

It’s a brilliant classic: a burst of exhilarating pop powered by sparkling, 80s-style nostalgic synth tones.

Even fans of electropop and synth-pop should find it an excellent fit.

The album that features the track, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, leans heavily into synth-pop as well, so give it a listen—you’ll be glad you did!

They drew attention with their 1988 album Surfer Rosa, and made a major breakthrough the following year with Doolittle.

Their lyrics, which explore eccentric themes such as UFOs and surrealism, and their sound, which fuses punk and surf rock, have influenced many musicians.

Although they disbanded once, they reunited in 2004 and have continued to captivate a new generation of fans.

Highly recommended for anyone drawn to energetic music.

Formed in Northern Ireland in ’79, at the tail end of punk, this classic punk album delivers a ferocious punch with heavily distorted guitars and near-screamed vocals.

The Clash’s influence is obvious, but their songwriting stands out.

The band has since reunited and is still active.

Different WorldsVandenberg

An unforgettable band from the 1980s that emerged from the Netherlands.

Thanks to Adrian Vandenberg’s expressively virtuosic guitar playing and songs with outstanding pop sensibility, they became popular in Japan as well.

Frontman Josh Homme.

Why is this guy so cool and badass? Even though he doesn’t do flashy moves on stage, you can’t take your eyes off him.

This song is from Rated R.

The era when Nick Oliveri was in the band was the best.
