Desperately Dark Western Music: World-Class Masterpieces and Popular Songs (41–50)
Symphony of DestructionMegadeth

Megadeth, known as one of the Big Four of thrash metal.
Their appeal, above all, lies in their top-tier musicianship, doesn’t it? Released in June 1992, this track carries a message warning against political corruption and the dangers of power.
Its heavy guitar riffs and aggressive vocals create a sense of despair, making it a perfect song for blowing off steam.
It was highly rated on VH1’s “100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs” and was also featured in the Guitar Hero video game series.
It might be a bit challenging for metal newcomers, but if you’re into heavy music, it’s a track I strongly recommend!

AchtungVarg

The German melodic death metal band Varg’s track evokes a manic impression, paired with blue-painted faces.
Featured on the album “Das Ende Aller Lügen,” released in January 2016, the song exposes political leaders as false prophets and calls for unified resistance.
The guitar sound and shouted vocals exude abnormal madness and fear, leaving a powerful impact.
The wolf-themed lyrics symbolize primal strength and the will to survive, powerfully conveying the band’s message.
Highly recommended for those who want to surrender themselves to intense music.
Buried MoonWildpath

This is a track by Wildpath, a symphonic metal band from France.
Its appeal lies in lyrics with a mystical, narrative quality and a distinctive musical style that fuses orchestral elements with metal.
Featured on the album “Underneath,” released in May 2011, the song is inspired by traditional British fairy tales and skillfully portrays the contrast between darkness and light.
It’s recommended for those who want to immerse themselves in a world reminiscent of fantasy novels or are seeking a new take on symphonic metal.
Dark yet hopeful, it offers a uniquely atmospheric experience—why not give it a listen?
In conclusion
This time, the theme was intensely strong—devastatingly dark Western music—and while picking songs, I found myself thinking, “There are a lot of dark tracks from France.” Germany and France are both countries where techno and noise have developed, and dark songs tend to become hits there.
If you want to dig deeper into dark music, definitely check out tracks from Germany and France.
