Chaise LongueWet Leg

In 2022, a female duo you should definitely keep an eye on is Wet Leg from the Isle of Wight, UK! Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Rhian Teasdale and lead guitarist/backing vocalist Hester Chambers formed the band in 2019.
Though still unknown at the time, they made their debut on the prestigious Domino Records in 2021, drawing attention among indie rock fans—including here in Japan—and released their long-awaited debut album, Wet Leg, on April 8, 2022.
This time, I’d like to introduce their milestone debut single, Chaise Longue! Built around a minimal bass line, with spoken-style vocals and dry, snarling guitars that kick in midway, the post-punk–style, spacious band ensemble is incredibly cool.
True to the times, it went viral and greatly boosted their profile.
The album is packed with facets of their appeal that go beyond post-punk, so if you’re interested, be sure to check it out as well!

Shakespears Sister is a British female duo consisting of Siobhán Fahey and Marcella Detroit, former members of the music group Bananarama.
With their clear, beautiful vocals, they have brought comfort to listeners around the world.
One of their signature songs is Stay, released in 1992.
Symphonic strings that evoke the night sky resound throughout the track.
Be sure to check out their choral work, which masterfully carries the song’s dramatic development.
With its classical melody, the piece offers a relaxing effect.
If you enjoy ambient-leaning music, be sure to give it a listen.
MonsterMeg & Dia

When we think of female duos, there are quite a few sister acts as well.
If you closely followed the emo boom of the 2000s, many of you probably remember Meg & Dia, who made their full-fledged debut on the prestigious Doghouse Records, the label that brought us bands like The Get Up Kids.
As their name suggests, they’re a duo of the Frampton sisters—Meg and Dia—who wielded an emotional sound spanning emo to indie rock.
They were active until 2012, reunited in 2019, and continue to perform today.
The song that really put them on the map was Monster, included on their 2006 album Something Real released via the aforementioned Doghouse Records.
Written and composed by the two sisters, its distinctly 2000s blend of aggressive guitar work, melancholic melodies in minor keys, and wistful, emotional vocals—paired with a memorable music video and a slightly gothic aesthetic—feels like it would still resonate with young music fans in the 2020s.
TroubleShampoo

Shampoo, a British female idol duo once dubbed the “kogal girls of London” in Japan, rose to prominence in the 1990s and drew attention for their distinctive fashion sense.
One of their signature songs is Trouble, released in 1994.
Many people in Japan may recognize it, as it has been used widely across various media.
Its danceable beat driving a punkish sound leaves a strong impression.
As you listen, pay attention to their girlish, talk-like vocal delivery as well.
