Lovely summer song

Iconic Western songs about fireworks. Firework songs to listen to in summer.

Many people in Japan probably think of fireworks when they hear “summer.”

Fireworks that spread across the night sky after a festival, as well as those enjoyed with family, are scenes that evoke a deep sense of nostalgia for Japanese people.

While it’s easy to find songs about fireworks in Japanese music, it can be surprisingly difficult to immediately name a few Western songs that “sing about fireworks.”

Fireworks are called “firework” or “fireworks” in English, and in this article we introduce not only songs that use “firework(s)” as a theme, but also tracks where fireworks are used metaphorically, along with recommended Western songs you might enjoy alongside real fireworks.

We also review the meanings of the lyrics, so be sure to check them out!

With the hit of the film Bohemian Rhapsody, the rock band QUEEN has been gaining a surge of young fans.

Did you know they collaborated with Japanese fireworks festivals? In May 2022, “QUEEN THE GREATEST FIREWORKS 2022” was held at three venues—Miyagi, Osaka, and Kitakyushu.

At this event, fireworks were launched in sync with QUEEN’s timeless hits, electrifying the venues.

Some tickets even came with limited-edition merchandise, making it an irresistible event for Western music fans.

FireworksRoxette

Fireworks by the Swedish band Roxette.

Marie Fredriksson’s clear, translucent vocals offer a different atmosphere from Japanese fireworks songs, and it’s wonderful, isn’t it? Just like the Irish band The Cranberries, whose female vocalist Dolores O’Riordan was very popular, there are many rock bands from the Nordic countries.

Don’t you feel that songs by these Nordic bands are exotic, yet somehow carry a kind of wistfulness that resonates with the Japanese heart? If this piques your interest, please try listening to other Nordic bands as well!

RedTaylor Swift

It’s a song included on Taylor Swift’s album of the same title.

Around that time, Taylor’s favorite lip color was red, and she wears red lipstick in the music video as well.

Passionate red is a perfect color for romance, and summer’s red fireworks shine beautifully, don’t they? Watching fireworks while listening to this upbeat song is sure to lift your spirits.

It’s a song released by Zayn in 2018.

Zayn’s smooth vocals and sweet lyrics are striking, resulting in a mature and romantic track.

Just like the lyrics, how about inviting someone you want to promise a future with to watch fireworks this summer and sharing your feelings?

Eternal FlameThe Bangles

Eternal FlameThe Bangles

The Bangles are an American all-female rock band.

Their signature song “Eternal Flame” is beloved in Japan as a wedding standard and as a TV drama theme.

Since its Japanese title is rendered as “Mune Ippai no Ai” (A Heart Full of Love), some of you may know it by that name.

Although fireworks don’t appear in the song’s lyrics, they are used strikingly in the music video.

The choice to feature fireworks—something that flare up and vanish—in the MV for “Eternal Flame,” which means a flame that burns forever, seems to carry a profound message.
