A male Western music vocal artist with an appealing husky voice
People often say, “Your husky voice is lovely,” but what exactly is the definition of a husky voice?
If we explain it literally, it becomes “raspy” or “hoarse,” which might sound negative when it comes to singing.
However, husky voices often contain a great deal of overtone components that can shift randomly depending on the singing and pitch, and this can be extremely appealing to the ear.
This is especially true for male singers, where the degree of rasp or hoarseness can convey “masculinity” and a “sexy edge,” making the voice very attractive.
In this article, we’ve gathered many songs by singers with captivating husky voices.
Please enjoy the distinctly masculine allure you won’t find in clear-voiced singers!

RockstarChad Kroger(Nickelback)

Nickelback is a Canadian monster band that achieved explosive success in the rock scene from the 2000s onward.
In 2022, they released their milestone 10th studio album, Get Rollin’, delivering that signature Nickelback sound and delighting fans.
While their foundation lies in heavy styles like alternative rock and post-grunge, they also have many massive hits in the form of heartfelt rock ballads featuring acoustic guitar.
At the center of it all is the voice of frontman Chad Kroeger, who handles vocals and guitar.
With a husky, thick, lustrous tone—brimming with a good kind of over-the-top, masculine presence—Chad’s voice gives both their hard-hitting tracks that whip audiences into a frenzy and their stadium-filling singalong ballads an undeniable sense of conviction.
Every Beat of My HeartRod Stewart

In the history of music, when it comes to rock singers with husky voices, many people probably think of him.
His voice pairs extremely well with grand rock ballads.
On top of his naturally raspy tone, the way he sings—almost as if exhaling—adds even more character to his timbre.
As It WasHarry Styles

No longer needing an introduction as a former One Direction member, Harry Styles proved himself one of the defining solo artists of 2022.
His third solo album, Harry’s House, released the same year, topped charts around the world and became a massive hit—something still fresh in our memories.
He also headlined Coachella, one of the world’s largest music festivals, in 2022, cementing his status as a top star who represents the 2020s.
His singing voice, in fact, isn’t particularly mannered; he doesn’t rely on grandiose vibrato, and his natural huskiness makes his performances comfortable and appealing to many listeners.
The occasional sultriness and his refined falsetto are wonderful, too.

Live For You, Die With YouFly By Midnight

They may not be very well known in Japan yet, but I’d like to introduce a male duo you should keep an eye on! Fly By Midnight, based in Los Angeles, primarily releases original songs and covers online and is an indie-pop unit made up of two songwriters.
Their music video for the classic track capturing the melancholy of men, “Love Me Like a Friend,” has surpassed 1.8 million views on YouTube since its 2019 release, so if you regularly keep up with new music, there’s a good chance you’ve heard it.
As mentioned, they’re a duo of two singer-songwriters, which means one of their charms is enjoying the contrast between their voices.
Both have husky, alluring tones, but one leans toward a mid-range, deeper timbre while the other sings in a higher register with expansive falsetto.
It’s no surprise, then, that their choruses and harmonies carry an even greater depth.
Keeping Me AliveJonathan Roy

Jonathan Roy is a singer-songwriter from Canada—and the son of legendary professional ice hockey goaltender Patrick Roy.
Jonathan has a very husky, raspy vocal timbre.
His musical style leans toward traditional country music and blues, and his voice pairs with that sound perfectly.
There aren’t many artists in the English-speaking world with this kind of husky voice, so he’s definitely worth checking out!
The Ghost in YouRichard Butler(The Psychedelic Furs)

In recent years, even rock bands are expected to be squeaky clean, and I suspect quite a few people feel a certain lack because so many stars are so wholesome.
Vocalists who, despite their lovely looks, exude a hint of unhealthiness and possess a unique aesthetic have always been loved in a cultish way, no matter the era.
The band featured here, The Psychedelic Furs, is a post-punk outfit formed in the 1980s with a sax player, and their frontman Richard Butler was such a presence that he was hailed at the time as the second coming of David Bowie.
He’s not the type who wins on sheer vocal prowess, but his naturally husky voice and slightly nasal delivery are quintessentially 80s UK new wave/post-punk—and it’s fantastic.
He’s got that rock-star cool and swagger, yet there’s also a certain fragility to him, which I personally find very appealing.
drunk textHenry Moodie

Henry Moodie is a singer-songwriter from the UK.
He’s also famous as a TikTok star, so many people in their teens and twenties have probably heard his songs.
Henry has a husky voice, but it comes out in a specific range: his low and mid range sound like a normal singing voice, and as he moves into the higher range, it turns into a breathy, husky tone.
His voice is incredibly sweet, so women in particular won’t want to miss it!
