KenjiFort Minor

A song by Fort Minor, the side project of Linkin Park’s rapper Mike Shinoda.
Inspired by Mike’s family, it sings about the many Japanese Americans who were interned during World War II.
The track incorporates interviews with Mike’s father and aunt.
Kirby SmashFoxsky

This artist is popular in the dubstep scene.
I’m not sure if it counts as Western music, but this track is a cool remix of background music from the hugely popular game Kirby.
The high level of overseas production really shines here.
I’m genuinely impressed that someone can create a remix like this.
Keeping The Dream AliveFreiheit

Freiheit is a German band.
Their official name is “MÜNCHENER FREIHEIT,” and they are a very popular group in Germany.
This work was released as a single from the 1988 album “FANTASY,” and reached No.
14 on the UK charts.
Effectively employing an orchestra, it presents a grand, expansive soundscape that transcends the bounds of pop and stands as a masterpiece reminiscent of classical music.
It’s such a high-quality song that it’s almost puzzling it isn’t more widely known.
Keep Yourself WarmFrightened Rabbit

Frightened Rabbit is a Scottish indie rock band active since 2003.
This track is included on their second album, The Midnight Organ Fight, released in 2008.
It’s a track characterized by honest and passionate lyrics.
King Tim IIIFtback Band

This track by the Fatback Band is said to be the first rap song because it was released just ahead of the Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight” in 1979, and I think it was innovative funk music for its time.
Killing Me SoftlyThe Fugees

A love song by Fugees that uses reggae’s distinctive flow and a deep sonic feel to dress a pop classic in a dark mood.
Its musicality is close to a younger generation that even high school girls can easily relate to, delivering a high-sense finish that elevates any karaoke session.
Knee DeepFunkadelic

This track by Funkadelic, which established the P-Funk genre and fused funk with psychedelia, is famous as the original song sampled in De La Soul’s 1989 hit “Me Myself and I.” The sampled track is great, but the original really is the best!
