Great medium-tempo ballad songs in Western music (31–40)
What’s In A KissGilbert O’Sullivan

Gilbert O’Sullivan is a British singer-songwriter known for his masterpiece ballad “Alone Again.” Perhaps because the impression of “Alone Again” is so strong, he tends to be seen as a one-hit wonder, but in fact he has created many fine works.
The Japanese title of this piece is “A Kiss on the Breeze.” Released in 1980, it’s a medium-tempo ballad for which the adjective “refreshing” is a perfect fit.
New MistakeJellyfish

Jellyfish is a power pop band from the United States.
“New Mistake” is a track from their 1993 album Spilt Milk, which is steeped in a full-on ’70s vibe from start to finish.
With its unusual chord progressions, twisted sonics, and lush harmonies, it’s packed with irresistible appeal for anyone who loves this kind of sound.
Broken WingsMr. Mister

Included on the 1985 album “Welcome to the Real World.” A four-piece rock band from Los Angeles that debuted in 1984.
As a band formed by studio musicians, their performance skills are outstanding.
In this track, the bass tone is particularly striking and really enhances the melody.
It’s still a cool number even today.
Have I Told You LatelyRod Stewart

Included on the 1993 album “Unplugged…
and Seated.” A cover of the song released in 1989 by Northern Irish singer Van Morrison.
Born in 1945, the singer is from Scotland.
It’s a track where the graceful, gently unfolding melody line resonates beautifully, and Rod’s husky voice, soulfully riding that melody, is full of charm and truly excellent.
Sentimental LadyBOB WELCH

Bob Welch is a musician from the United States who was once a member of Fleetwood Mac.
This piece was included on his solo album “French Kiss.” The Japanese title is “Sad Woman,” but I think “Sentimental Woman” is closer to the original meaning.
It’s a ballad released in 1977 that carries an indescribable, sweet sense of melancholy.
