ME!Taylor Swift

Speaking of Taylor Swift, she’s a famous American songstress well-known in Japan too.
In her 2019 release “ME!”, she collaborated with Brendon Urie, the vocalist of the globally popular band Panic! At The Disco.
With its stylish, pop sound, it’s sure to put you in a good mood when used as background music.
Jump (Armin van Buuren Remix)Van Halen

Van Halen’s signature song “Jump,” with its unmistakably famous synthesizer riff, has a refreshingly upbeat feel and has been used as background music in many commercials and TV programs in Japan.
In 2019, it was also chosen as the theme song for a Suntory All-Free commercial featuring Goro Inagaki and Shingo Katori.
It can be regarded as one of the defining tracks of 1980s hard rock.
It’s My LifeBon Jovi

Included on Bon Jovi’s seventh album, Crush, released in 2000.
This song features the names of Tommy and Gina—characters from Bon Jovi’s early signature hit “Livin’ on a Prayer” (released in 1986)—and became a fitting track to usher in the new millennium.
Karma Chameleon (Karma Is Fickle)Culture Club

Included on Culture Club’s second album, “Colour by Numbers.” The Japanese title is “Karma wa Kimagure” (“Karma Is Capricious”).
Released in 1983.
Boy George’s (for the time) striking cross-dressing and the chorus’s repeated “Karma, karma, karma…” phrase made an enormous impact on Japanese audiences, aided by its curious overlap with Japanese sounds.
True ColorsCyndi Lauper

True Colors is a slow ballad by Cyndi Lauper, released in 1986, that spent two consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard chart.
With its softly flowing instrumentation, it’s a beautiful, soothing song.
The gentle tempo—imbued with a positive, healing quality that invites peaceful sleep—pairs perfectly with Cyndi’s tender, almost whisper-like vocals, making it a crowning masterpiece from one of the 1980s’ iconic divas.
