A collection of Western songs with titles that start with “O”

When it comes to English words that start with “O,” there are plenty that sound like they could be song titles, such as “Open,” “One,” and “Only.” In this article, we’ll introduce classic Western songs whose titles begin with “O.” You probably don’t often search for songs by their initial letter, but once you try, you may discover tracks that hadn’t really caught your eye before.

In that sense, this article is something music lovers in particular will want to read.

Let’s dive in!

A compilation of Western songs with titles starting with 'O' (351–360)

Oh, MeMeat Puppets

Meat Puppets, the underground charismatic presence of the 1980s indie scene—also known for being named a favorite by Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain—have built a 40-year career since their formation in 1980 through to the 2020s.

As evidenced by their many releases on the prestigious SST label, a cornerstone of ’80s hardcore, they carry a venerable hardcore lineage while also embracing diverse musical elements like country and folk.

For that, they’re regarded as pioneers of alternative rock.

After moving to a major label, they achieved commercial success as well.

From their discography, this time I’d like to introduce Oh, Me from their highly acclaimed 1984 release Meat Puppets II—a track whose charm lies in its subtly slack, enigmatic melodicism and twisted sound.

There’s a faintly psychedelic texture, and while the sound is “alternative” in the literal sense and not at all hardcore punk, it’s something I’d love people to know about when digging into the genre: that bands and music like this were emerging within the ’80s US hardcore milieu.

OTAKU HOT GIRLMegan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion’s track that samples the Jujutsu Kaisen eyecatch music is a masterpiece where American hip-hop and Japanese anime culture blend beautifully.

Incorporating Japanese words like “arigato,” the lyrics liken characters such as Satoru Gojo and Naruto to her own strength and allure, conveying a deep affection for otaku culture.

Hailing from Houston, Texas, she released the song in June 2024 as part of her third studio album, “Megan.” After overcoming many hurdles to secure sampling clearance, the finished work reached No.

67 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The music video also includes scenes from her visit to Japan, and the track captures fans’ hearts as an anthem that embodies a confident, anime-loving, powerful female figure.

Metallica, a heavy metal band immensely popular in Japan as well, has produced numerous masterpieces, some of which carry an anti-war theme.

Among them, I’d like to highlight “One.” This song was modeled after the protagonist of the film “Johnny Got His Gun,” and, following the film’s storyline, it portrays an anti-war message.

Although it’s an anti-war song based on a work of fiction, its content is just as serious as anti-war songs focused on current events.

One Day In Your LifeMichael Jackson

Michael Jackson, known as the King of Pop.

Those in their teens today may not be familiar with him, but he was one of the most prominent singers from the 1970s to the 1980s.

He is known for his wide range of styles—from dance music to emotional ballads—and his song “One Day In Your Life” is especially moving.

His breathy vocal technique is one of his trademarks, but in this piece, you can savor a warm, enveloping vocal quality that differs from his dance-oriented tracks.

The New York collective MICHELLE released a track in June 2024 that serves as the lead single from their new album, “Songs About You Specifically.” Written during a stay in Ojai, California, the song centers on themes of betrayal and deceptive relationships, marked by candid lyrics and a rhythmic groove.

Band member Julian commented that the song was written “from a very honest place,” resulting in an ambitious piece that evokes deep emotion and empathy.

The work signals a new musical direction that sets it apart from MICHELLE’s previous tracks, and it’s sure to resonate with listeners.

Ommadawn Pt.1Mike Oldfield

A masterpiece by Mike Oldfield that stands as a pinnacle of progressive rock, Ommadawn Pt.1.

Its bright and cheerful atmosphere, infused with elements of Irish music, is striking.

Multiple themes are skillfully woven together, achieving rich sonority and expressive depth.

Released in 1975, the piece garnered wide acclaim and was even used in the film The Space Movie.

Expressing the cosmos, nature, and human emotion, this work is recommended not only for progressive rock fans but for anyone interested in music’s profound expressive power.

One and OneMiles Davis

Miles Davis, a world-renowned jazz trumpeter.

He produced many classic albums, and among them, On the Corner is especially highly regarded.

Released in 1972, this work differed from his previous output, conceived with the idea of reaching a younger generation who preferred funk and rock that kept some distance from jazz.

In fact, many tracks reveal strong funk elements and experimental developments.
