When it comes to iconic American female R&B singers, Monica surely comes to mind.

She’s a legendary figure who has even won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance.

Her ballad “U Should’ve Known Better,” which she created around the theme of the pain of being separated from a loved one, reflects that depth.

The song appears on two albums: All Eyez on Me and After the Storm.

In fact, the version included on the latter features additional arrangement changes.

Umi SaysMos Def

Mos Def’s Black on Both Sides is his debut solo album, released in 1999.

It’s known as a landmark of East Coast hip-hop that incorporates elements of jazz and soul.

The lyrics, which sharply portray social issues and personal experiences, and the album’s diverse musicality have been highly praised, earning it a Gold certification.

Tracks from the album were also featured on the soundtrack of the film Brown Sugar, reflecting its broad appeal.

It’s a great recommendation even for those new to hip-hop, offering a powerful sense of the music’s depth and diversity.

MR.

BIG, who achieved worldwide success from the 1980s through the 1990s, return with a powerful new song that carries the spirit of hard rock into the present.

Its lyrics about intimate relationships pair perfectly with an energetic sound.

Drawing attention as the lead single from the album “TEN,” released in July 2024, the track is featured on their highly anticipated new record—their first in seven years.

Showcasing soaring vocals and virtuosic guitar work, this song represents the band at their very best.

It’s highly recommended for anyone struggling with love or relationships—and above all, for those who truly love fiery rock ’n’ roll.

UnintendedMuse

MUSE is a three-piece rock band from the UK.

While they’re strongly associated with a diverse musical style that absorbs a range of influences, this track from their fifth album, The Resistance, is a simple guitar-driven ballad that expresses the desire to embrace a loved one’s heart—including its flaws.

Muse is a British rock trio formed in 1997.

Though just three members, the sounds they create are remarkably diverse: while rooted in British rock and pop, they can be raw at times, progressive at others—emotional and symphonic.

Their musical expression is like a kaleidoscope, yet each facet retains a compelling pull that unmistakably feels like Muse.

Matthew Bellamy, the guitarist-vocalist who also plays keyboards, is at his best when he’s free to move with a guitar—especially his signature “crab walk,” which looks a bit like a sideways moonwalk and sends the crowd into a frenzy during shows.

Every record is recommended; you can dive into the Muse world from anywhere and enjoy it.

US VS THEMNEMZZZ

An ambitious work released in December 2024 by Nems, born in Manchester, UK and currently drawing attention on the British hip-hop scene.

The track showcases the essence of his style, which pushes the boundaries between hip-hop and alternative, featuring hard-hitting beats and candid lyrics.

It delves deeply into his inner world, relationships, and the impact of success, leaving a strong impression with its stance that resists being bound by material success or appearances.

In 2024, it ranked third in the UK on Spotify by streaming numbers and garnered attention at the MOBO Awards.

His new style—fusing rap with alternative—has been resonating with listeners around the world.

UdsheerNO NAME

I think very few Japanese people have ever listened to Mongolian hip-hop.

In fact, Mongolia’s rap scene is extremely advanced; as someone who has listened to music of all genres from over 50 countries, I’d say it’s at least a decade ahead of Japan.

One of the most famous veterans in the Mongolian rap scene is No Name.

The track I’m introducing here, “Udsheer,” is from nearly 20 years ago, yet it features a flow that’s on par with today’s rap scene.

Definitely check it out.
