101st Proposal: Impossible to Watch Without Tears! A Collection of Moving Quotes (1–10)
You will go on thinking about this person from now on as well. I intend to hold you—together with the you who continues to think about this person—tight in my arms.Tatsuro Hoshino

Unfolding before her ex-boyfriend’s flowers, this is another one of the great scenes.
No matter how deeply two people love each other, a small twist can lead to a fight and then a breakup.
We’re only human—these things happen.
But if the separation is a sudden bereavement…
She was left waiting at the wedding venue, and her lover never came.
Having gone through what might be the worst kind of parting in life, it’s only natural that the heroine, Kaoru, would hesitate to fall in love again.
This line reveals Tatsuro’s greatness as a person and the depth of his affection.
If you’re someone prone to jealousy, it wouldn’t hurt to engrave these words on your heart.
I swear: I’ll love you just the same 50 years from now as I do today!Tatsuro Hoshino

The scene where Tatsuro happens to utter the exact same words as his late fiancée.
Atsuko Asano’s startled reaction was absolutely superb.
Tetsuya Takeda’s portrayal of Tatsuro Hoshino has that unmistakable human “heat” that reminds you of Takeda himself.
Takeda has said in interviews that he wasn’t popular at all during his school days, and in that way he’s just like Tatsuro.
After meeting the love of his life—someone whose lifestyle and world were completely different from his—Tatsuro refused to give up on Kaoru, a woman who would normally be far out of reach.
The scene where he cries out through tears that he’s not the same as her late boyfriend—of course, no viewer could watch that without tearing up.
I won’t die! Because I love you.Tatsuro Hoshino

It’s famous as the number one iconic scene from “101st Proposal,” isn’t it? Even people who haven’t seen the drama might know this line! It often appeared as a parody in comedy sketches.
The heroine, played by Atsuko Asano, has lost her lover and become afraid of love, so she can’t easily accept the advances of Tatsuro, played by Tetsuya Takeda.
Then he leaps in front of a speeding truck, declaring that he absolutely won’t die.
And then comes this line.
It’s the true climax of the first half, where the heroine Kaoru accepts Tatsuro’s love.
It’s such a legendary line in TV drama history that it makes you think, “The show could end right here and I’d be satisfied!”
I’ll win you back as a man, one more time.Tatsuro Hoshino
A scene where Tatsuro, whose boss Fujii stole Kaoru from him, makes his declaration.
For an ordinary man, this is the kind of situation where he’d sigh, “I guess it just wasn’t meant to be…” and give up on a lover whose heart has drifted away.
Think about it: after you finally manage to turn her gaze away from her ex and toward you, if she then starts falling for yet another man, in most cases it would blow up into a huge fight.
But Tatsuro boldly declares he’ll win her back, fair and square—that’s real manliness.
Clumsy as he may be, he embodies the classic, straight-ahead masculine spirit; once again, Hoshino Tatsuro and Mr.
Tetsuya Takeda overlap in my mind.
I wish every man in the world could be like Tatsuro!
Loving someone, you know, is probably about praying that you yourself will change together with the person you love.Tatsuro Hoshino
Back in the Taisho and Showa eras, men walked ahead while women followed quietly three steps behind—thinking about it now, it feels a bit strange, but that was normal then.
There was also the bubble-era style of romance where the man took the lead assertively.
This line comes from a drama set in the Showa period, yet it exudes a timeless charm that fits our era, too.
It’s a refined line that captures the ideal shape of love: the two of us changing together, regardless of being a man or a woman.
When you fall for someone, no matter what they put you through, you just don’t feel any hatred or anger toward them at all.Tatsuro Hoshino
Hatsunori Hasegawa plays Kaoru’s late fiancé.
And of course, he also plays the character in the latter half of the drama who looks just like Kaoru’s former fiancé—the same Hatsunori Hasegawa, and both roles are incredibly cool! No wonder the heroine Kaoru falls for him…
Even with such powerful rivals in love in both the past and present, and even if he ends up being tossed around by Kaoru as a result, Tatsuro never blames her.
He’s just that big-hearted—tolerant in love, tolerant toward his partner.
“If I fall in love, I go all in” Tatsuro—honestly, you could almost revere him as a mentor in romance.
Half-dead or half-baked, it’s fine by me. Just spinning around like this, I’m happy right now.Tatsuro Hoshino
These are Tatsuro’s lines after being dragged around by Kaoru in all sorts of ways, leaving his heart utterly exhausted.
It’s a great line that reveals his firm belief that he’s met his destined person, as well as his goodness as a human being.
Are you the type who’s fine with being dragged around by your lover? Or do you get upset easily? I think some degree of patience is necessary in a relationship, but it’s hard to be as enlightened as Tatsuro, isn’t it? Still, if the world were full of such big-hearted people, there would be no pointless conflicts.
