[Back to the ’90s!] Dance music in Western pop that was a hit in the 1990s

The 1990s were a period in which electronic music saw remarkable growth compared to any previous era.

Genres like Eurobeat and dance-pop attracted particular attention and went on to influence modern styles such as artcore and deep house.

In this piece, I’d like to introduce dance music from the 1990s.

Alongside global smash hits, I’ve also included more niche tracks with a Eurobeat flavor.

For those interested in the evolution of electronic music, there are many must-hear tracks here, so please take your time and enjoy.

The music group Vengaboys from Amsterdam is known for its Eurodance-driven sound and enjoyed huge success in the 1990s.

Although they were inactive for a period, they are still active today and remain highly popular among Eurodance fans.

Among their works, I especially recommend “Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!”.

If you spent your youth in the 1990s, you might find this catchy melody familiar.

This is one of their most popular numbers, from artists often hailed as the best in the dance music scene.

From the very start, the catchy beat instantly grabbed the audience’s hearts.

The relentlessly repeated, simple phrase is so addictive that once you hear it, it sticks with you.

With its distinctive sound, it has earned massive popularity, and even now, whenever this track comes on, your body can’t help but move!

GoMoby

A producer duo representing the British techno that was popular in the 1990s.

They’re known for an open, euphoric, ravey sound with a distinctly British vibe, and this track was a major hit.

It climbed to No.

9 on the Dutch charts, a remarkable achievement.

It samples “Laura Palmer’s Theme” from the TV drama Twin Peaks soundtrack.

Later, the distinctive “Go!” phrase from this track was reused in many songs.

This is the second single cut from Massive Attack’s legendary 1991 debut album, Blue Lines.

As you’ll hear, it’s a timeless classic.

The progressive and trance scene icon Paul Oakenfold also took part as a remixer.

Massive Attack, charismatic leaders in downtempo, trip-hop, and abstract hip-hop, made this a landmark early release in their career.
