A cappella masterpieces: Recommended songs where beautiful harmonies shine (Western and Japanese music)

A cappella that highlights beautiful harmonies.

Do you have any favorite a cappella groups or songs?

Overseas, there are various groups like Pentatonix at the forefront, as well as Home Free and VoicePlay.

In Japan, there are The Gospellers and Little Glee Monster, who have collaborated with Pentatonix.

One of the charms of a cappella is enjoying that perfectly synchronized, almost telepathic breathing and timing!

A cappella that can move you or lift your spirits.

I’ll be introducing some outstanding a cappella masterpieces from both Japan and abroad!

They are an American a cappella group.

Their hallmark is not only their harmonies but also their ability to reproduce the sounds of various instruments using only their mouths.

Beyond percussion, they incorporate sounds like harmonicas and synthesizers—tones that are usually difficult to produce vocally—to perform entirely with voices.

This performance style is sometimes referred to as “vocal play.”

Mileage of LoveRAG FAIR

They are a five-member Japanese male a cappella vocal group, commonly abbreviated as “RAG.” All members write lyrics and compose music.

The group’s name originated from a T-shirt worn by one of the members; it was later discovered to mean something like “costume parade,” which matched the group’s lively character, so the name was officially adopted.

YesterdayBoyz II Men

They are an American vocal group originally consisting of four members known for their beautiful harmonies.

After one member left in 2002 due to health issues, it seems they continued as a trio without bringing in a new member.

This song is one of the most popular tracks by the British rock band the Beatles and has been covered by numerous musicians around the world.

TonightRockapella

This is a song by Rockapella, an American a cappella group formed in 1986 out of Brown University’s a cappella circle.

The lineup has changed over the years, but they’ve continued performing ever since.

They’ve toured Japan many times, so many fans of Western a cappella music may already know them.

Their skills are unquestionable.

They also have a comedic side, and their live shows look like a lot of fun.

They are a five-member male vocal group from Japan, formed in the a cappella club at Waseda University.

It seems they are a collective of multi-talented members, all capable of writing lyrics, composing, and singing.

At the time of their debut, a cappella wasn’t as mainstream as it is now, and they appeared on various variety shows.

Bohemian RhapsodyRajaton

This is a professional Finnish a cappella group consisting of three men and three women.

The group’s name carries a meaning like “infinite” in Finnish.

They have close ties with the Swedish a cappella group The Real Group and have performed together at concerts, among other events.

This song is one of the hit songs by the British rock band QUEEN.

They are a five-member American a cappella group.

Every song showcases unmatched harmonies, and their a cappella arrangements are extremely inventive, so you never get bored listening.

This piece is the so-called “The Phantom of the Opera.” It’s a piece often used in figure skating and is very familiar in Japan as well.

Full of CheerHome Free

This is a song by Home Free, an American male a cappella group formed in 2000 that won season four of NBC’s The Sing-Off in 2013 and has been on the rise recently.

Their varied vocal tones make them very pleasant to listen to.

Although the lineup has changed over time, I think they’re a group to watch for fans of Western a cappella music.

An a cappella group formed by members of Osaka University’s a cappella club, they made their professional debut after appearing on Hamonep.

They are known for their refreshing harmonies.

This arrangement preserves the atmosphere of the original song by Gesu no Kiwami Otome, who recently went on hiatus, while highlighting skillful choral work.

EasyKlangbezirk

Easy (Klangbezirk, a cappella)
EasyKlangbezirk

It’s a song by the German a cappella quartet Klangbezirk.

The song itself is originally by the Commodores, so this is a cover, but it’s an a cappella version with gentle, soft harmonies by mixed male and female voices and expressive dynamics.

I like this version more than the original.

I think the singing style fits the lyrics very well.
