Pompon Tomte

Here’s an idea for making a Tomte, a Scandinavian fairy, out of yarn.
First, use white yarn to make a small pom-pom that will be the Tomte’s face.
Wrap yarn around a pom-pom maker, cut along the looped edges with scissors, tie the center with twine, and trim it into shape—simple, right? Once the white pom-pom is ready, make the hat.
Slice a toilet paper tube into rings about 1 cm wide.
The ring size will determine the hat size, so adjust it to fit snugly over the white pom-pom.
Take a length of yarn folded in half, loop it through the cardboard ring, and pass the loose ends through the folded loop to secure it to the ring.
Repeat all the way around, then gather and tie the ends at the top to form the hat.
Finally, attach a cotton ball for the nose and decorate the hat with a star embellishment.
Ribbon tree

On a 15 cm sheet of drawing paper, draw a fan shape with a 100-degree angle.
Cut it out with scissors, then glue it into a cone shape.
Wrap an arrangement ribbon (available at 100-yen shops, etc.) around it and attach it with a glue gun.
If you use a ribbon that’s already pleated, simply sticking it on will give it a strong tree-like look.
Finish by decorating the top of the tree with a star and a ribbon.
Adding small gem stickers can represent lights and might make it look even nicer.
Pinecone Tree

Here’s a pinecone tree you can make using only items from a 100-yen shop.
You can use store-bought pinecones and nuts, or ones you’ve collected yourself.
First, arrange the pinecones in a hexagonal shape for the first layer and secure them with a hot glue gun.
For the second layer, place four, then two on top of that, and finally one, forming a tree shape.
Randomly insert wreath fir greenery into the gaps.
Once the base is done, add decorations and finish by placing a star on top.

This is a candy wreath that’s perfect as a Christmas present.
It’s great because you can display it and eat it.
To make it, cut iridescent (cellophane) paper into long strips, line up the candies, and secure them by wrapping with tape.
Tie ribbons between each candy, then form it into a circle and add a decoration to the knot to finish.
If you use too many candies, it gets harder to shape into a ring, so depending on the size, about 5 to 10 pieces is recommended.
Using candies with colorful wrappers will make a cuter wreath.
[Origami] Christmas Wreath

A Christmas wreath made with origami—its appeal also lies in the volume created by combining three-dimensional shapes.
The process involves unfolding small triangles with layered folds, gluing them, shaping them into petals, and assembling those petals into flowers.
Then, by combining the flowers themselves and forming them into a ring, you repeat a series of meticulous steps to create a piece that feels like the crystallization of dedicated effort.
It’s tempting to feel satisfied just by completing the ring, but be sure to pay careful attention to the color balance and the placement of decorations to finish it as a gorgeous Christmas wreath.
