Horse Sings from CloudNEW!Pauline Oliveros

Pauline Oliveros, a composer and accordionist from Houston, Texas, was an artist who proposed the concept of “Deep Listening” and left a profound mark on the world of experimental music.
Her 1982 release Accordion and Voice is one of her early solo works and can be considered a landmark of ambient drone.
Composed solely of sustained accordion tones and her own voice, the album unfolds a meditative, beautiful sonic space that gently expands the listener’s consciousness.
There’s even an anecdote that she performed while picturing a mountain ridgeline in her mind.
If you want to engage deeply with the resonance of sound itself, be sure to check it out!
UndercurrentNEW!Windy & Carl

You can understand how the shoegaze-like, blissful sway is highly compatible with ambient music by listening to Windy & Carl.
The duo—Windy Weber and Carl Hultgren—are based in Michigan and known as pioneers of guitar drone.
The release I’m introducing here is Depths, an album put out in 1998 by the esteemed label Kranky.
It’s a masterpiece that layers guitars and voices with effects to create a deep-sea-like sonic space spanning roughly 70 minutes.
Its reputation is impeccable, having been selected by Pitchfork as one of the greatest ambient albums of all time.
If you’re looking for an experience like drifting while cradled by waves of sound, be sure to check this one out!
Poa AlpinaBiosphere

Starting with train sounds and the bustle of a crowd, the Norwegian musician Biosphere delivers an album packed with soundscapes—thunder, rain, birdsong—that evokes a fusion of the electronic and the natural.
Sounds that exist in this world and sounds that don’t; it’s a deeply layered work that really grabs the brain.
LearPauline Oliveros, Stuart Dempster, Panaiotis

A wonderful work, starting with the title “Deep Listening,” which seems to present a way to listen to the piece itself.
The tracks, which use drone music highly compatible with ambient music, are soothing and truly convey a sense of depth.
How about using it as background music for meditation, yoga, or other moments of focused concentration?
Requiem for Dying Mothers, Pt. 1Stars of the Lid

Stars of the Lid is an album by an American ambient duo.
These two hours offer a truly colorful spectrum of ambient music.
It’s quite a lot to take in, but try to find your favorites within—there’s sure to be some top-tier ambient that would shine in installations or contemporary art settings.
Reflections in SuspensionSteve Roach

Structures from Silence, released in 1984 by American ambient music master Steve Roach.
Evoking a vast, desert-like stillness and a delicate world of sound rising from it, this work continues to shine without losing its luster even nearly 40 years after its release.
Comprised of three tracks, it is characterized by a floating, time-dissolving soundscape.
With its meditative atmosphere, it’s perfect for moments of relaxation or introspection.
Highly recommended not only for those interested in ambient music, but also for anyone looking to step away from the daily bustle and find inner balance.
AwakeTycho

An album by Tycho titled “Awake.” It’s a very pleasant work of ambient music performed alongside familiar instruments like electric guitar and drums.
It might be the perfect album for rock band aficionados and fans of live instruments to try out out of curiosity.
