Ayumi Nakamura – Broken-Winged Angel
Broken-winged angelNakamura Ayumi

Released as Ayumi Nakamura’s third single on analog record in 1985.

It was reissued as a CD single in 1988.

Covered by numerous artists, including Maki Ohguro and Demon Kogure, and repeatedly re-recorded by Nakamura herself, it can truly be called her signature song in both name and substance.

I remember that, at the time of her debut, many people were surprised by her raspy voice—unusual for a singer—but that slightly strained delivery seems to help convey the song’s theme of teenage anguish.

It’s a track that should still resonate strongly with today’s teens.

Listen carefully.Honda Rutsuko

I enjoyed it because the cast from the drama also appeared in the theme song for “Bluer Than Indigo.” Even so, what a beautiful singing voice.

The clear tone suits the blue sea perfectly, and I can see why they were chosen to sing the theme song.

I’m curious what they’re doing now—I’m one of those who would love to hear them again.

I’ve come a long way, when I think about it.Kaientai

Vocalist Tetsuya Takeda and rhythm guitarist Toshio Nakamuta are from Fukuoka.

Formed in 1971, they are a band that represents Japan’s folk scene.

They debuted in 1972 on Elec Records with the album “Kaientai ga Yuku,” and are known for lyrics infused with social messages alongside a wide musical range from soft rock to hard rock.

The group has performed as a trio with the aforementioned members and lead guitarist Kazuomi Chiba, scoring major hits with “Ballad Dedicated to My Mother” and “Okuru Kotoba,” which is also known as a graduation song.

Their lyrics, which portray many facets of life, truly resonate.

They’re recommended not only for fans of folk music but also for anyone drawn to heartfelt lyrics and warm, expressive vocals.

Holding Out For A Hero (Japanese cover)
HeroKoyanagi Rumiko

Although it feels relatively restrained on the recording, this song is where Rumiko Koyanagi truly shines.

When she performs it, she moves and belts as if to say, “This is exactly the kind of song I wanted to sing.” That exuberant energy is wonderful.

It’s a track that lets you fully savor Rumiko Koyanagi.

It was quite a long time ago, but an elementary school boy who saw a group that had come to a nearby event was excitedly sharing his impressions.

Even though the group was clearly older than his own parents, they seemed like young and cool adults to him.

They were a rock ’n’ roll couple, so it’s truly heartbreaking about Sheena.

The Camellia Sasanqua InnŌkawa Eisaku

Eisaku Okawa, known as a leading figure in the enka world, hails from Okawa City in Fukuoka Prefecture.

He debuted in 1969 with “Men’nai Chidori,” and for over half a century has led Japan’s popular music scene.

His style, which blends emotionally rich vocals with traditional Japanese musical elements, has captured the hearts of many fans.

His 1982 release “Sazanka no Yado” was a major hit and earned the Long-Seller Award at the Japan Record Awards.

His performances, which sing of the melancholy of Japan’s nature and of life, make him truly deserving of the title of a national singer.

Known for his warm personality as well, he continues to move people through his music.

He is an artist highly recommended not only for enka fans but also for anyone interested in traditional Japanese music.
