Pictogram sprint
How about adapting the pictograms that drew attention during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics into a parent-child event for your sports day? Waiting ahead after the parent and child start is a signboard with pictograms.
On the signboard, gestures like piggyback rides and carrying in arms are depicted as pictograms.
Children ask their guardians to perform the indicated actions and aim for the finish line! It’s a fun event that encourages lots of parent-child interaction, so if you’re a teacher looking for ideas for a sports day parent-child activity, please use this as a reference.
Running a race using the winners’ podium
Athletes standing on the podium at the Olympic medal ceremony look so cool, don’t they? How about using a podium for a parent-child obstacle race at a school sports day? Since a podium has gentle steps, it’s perfect as an obstacle! It might be difficult for a 2-year-old to jump over, but parents can support and cooperate with their child to overcome it together.
Clearing the obstacle as a team will strengthen your bond, and above all, create a once-in-a-lifetime memory!
Fan ping-pong

Table tennis and tennis are Olympic events, but they can be a bit difficult to include as events for two-year-olds at a sports day.
So let’s turn the racket into a uchiwa fan to make it fun and accessible for two-year-olds.
With a larger hitting surface, even infants can enjoy participating.
Using ping-pong balls, soft foam balls, or even balloons would be fun as well.
For a parent-child event, it could be exciting if the parents toss the ball to make it easier for the child to hit, or conversely, the parents return the balls tossed by the children.

Balloon Basketball
@balloon_manawa A balloon basket that doesn’t hurt even if you get hit! Maybe not just for one-year-olds—kids who can sit up might be able to play too? 🤭 It’s great that you can adjust the height! Give it a try! ♡Ideas for at-home play
♪ Ukīuki Wake Me Up — Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go – Q;indivi starring Rin Oikawa
Even kids who aren’t comfortable with hard balls can give it a try! Here’s a balloon basketball idea.
Basketball is a ball sport played on a rectangular court where you use a ball and try to score by putting it through a hoop, right? Many of you have probably seen games on TV.
This time, let’s make a ball using a balloon and vinyl tape, and have a shooting contest with a parent or guardian.
For the hoop, a cut-out piece of cardboard works well.
You can adjust the height of the hoop to keep it fun and engaging without getting bored!
Nice shot in the golf game

Let’s make it with newspaper and toilet paper rolls! Here’s a “nice shot” idea for playing golf.
Golf is, of course, a sport played in nature using clubs and balls.
This time, we’re sharing a fun idea that lets you enjoy golf with your child by using newspaper and toilet paper rolls together with a parent or guardian! Working toward a goal together with your child can deepen your bond and create wonderful moments.
Give it a try!
Fluffy Tennis Made from Scrap Materials

Here’s an idea for fluffy tennis using recycled materials.
Tennis usually involves a racket and a ball, but this time let’s try tennis using a plastic bottle and a bag! You’ll need a plastic bottle, a bag, stickers, a pen, and masking tape.
Draw your favorite illustrations on the bag, then fill it with air.
Decorating the plastic bottle freely with masking tape and stickers will get everyone excited.
Work together to keep the softly floating bag from falling.
Rin-rin hammer made from scrap materials

Let’s try playing with a jingling hammer made from scrap materials.
Although its shape is completely different from a hammer throw implement, it would be great if guardians could explain the rules and key points of hammer throw to children.
When throwing, make sure to create a safe environment where it won’t hit furniture or people before giving it a try.
A gymnasium or an open field would allow you to practice with peace of mind.
Another advantage is that it makes a jingling sound when thrown, making it easy to tell where it landed.
Be sure to give it a try!
