DADARADWIMPS
A song from RADWIMPS, released in 2011 when they were entering the mid-career phase, that I’d especially like sensitive teenagers to listen to.
It has a defiant mood and lyrics laced with social cynicism.
In terms of that sharp, exhilarating bite of social satire, it’s akin to “Oshakashama,” but while that song ends on a note that suggests hope, this one wraps up on a fairly dark note.
Perhaps it’s saying, “How about living a bit more leisurely and gently?” If that sounds like your thing, definitely give it a listen!
Myself ROCKONE OK ROCK
It speaks to you with a powerful message: if you don’t live true to yourself, then even if you’re alive, it’s the same as being dead.
It’s a song with a strong message that while ending things is easy, you should struggle as many times as you can while you still can, and live as yourself—and its music video is highly regarded.
Among ONE OK ROCK’s early works, it’s a fan favorite.
The heavy power chords and sharply defined highs drive a rhythmic riff that forms a bundle of sound, creating a groove that charges forward.
It’s a track that’s both catchy and deeply meaningful.
AS ONEUVERworld
Even the heavy trek to school will feel light on your feet.
The sheer power of the bass is instantly clear when you listen on headphones! UVERworld’s track “AS ONE,” released in March 2020, boosts the very low end right from the opening spoken part, and once the bass and kick drum come in, the thickness of the sound reaches an incredible level.
The key to this song is the inclusion of sub-bass that goes even lower than a standard 4-string bass.
It’s a fantastic low-end thumper that delivers both greater vocal clarity and a richly thick sound.
Bang!MIYAVI
Recommended for EDM fans.
It features a grand, dance-pop-based sound arrangement and striking, sharp guitars.
It’s an energizing track that I want to listen to first thing in the morning.
Many people may have heard it, as it was also used in a Rakuten Mobile commercial.
It’s a song by MIYAVI, one of Japan’s leading guitarists who is active internationally, included on the 2020 album “Holy Nights.” The lyrics express a positive message: no matter what others think, keep moving forward toward the future.
It’s also a great pick when you want to boost your motivation.
Rising DownSHANK
A high-energy SHANK track that makes you want to sprint down your route to school—or tear down it on a bike.
As SHANK’s first digital release, this song’s sheer sense of speed is invigorating.
On mornings when you’re already pumped, it amps you up even more; on sluggish mornings, it gives you a powerful push.
It might be perfect to listen to on mornings when there’s a school event like a sports festival.
One thing’s for sure: listen to it and you’ll be ready to go full throttle all day!
STAY GOLDHi-STANDARD
The two characters for “youth,” which haven’t faded one bit even now, are packed into these mere two minutes! Coupled with its 1999 release, just listening to it will make many people of that generation feel a wave of emotion.
It’s a song I want today’s middle and high schoolers to go back in time and listen to as well.
Regardless of the lyrics—though they’re great too—the sound is what truly shines.
Try listening to their legendary number first thing in the morning.

A track by CVLTE, a Hokkaido-born band, where a mysterious worldview unfolds over a rock sound.
It’s a collaboration with Shakabose, who’s active as a trackmaker and rapper.
Rather than a typically Japanese rock sound, it has a cool, Western vibe.
Just listening to a song with such a unique atmosphere gets you hyped.
Beyond the rock sound, it has an energy that wakes you up from deep down on sleepy mornings.
