[Childcare] August wall display ideas

In summer, there are plenty of events—like swimming at the beach and summer festivals—that children love.

Many of you may want to capture that fun atmosphere in your childcare facility’s wall decorations.

In this article, we’ll introduce wall decoration ideas recommended for August, when the summer heat is at its peak.

We’ve gathered a variety of ideas, including not only summer events but also classic symbols of the season, as well as sea creatures and foods that children love.

There are lots of ideas you can make together with the children, so be sure to use them during your craft time.

[Childcare] August wall decoration ideas (1–10)

Foot-shaped watermelon

One of the symbols of summer is the watermelon.

It’s a classic motif, which is why it can sometimes feel lacking in freshness.

That’s where the footprint watermelon idea comes in.

It uses watermelon as the motif, but instead of simply cutting and pasting paper, you take the children’s footprints and turn them into slices of watermelon.

Trace their footprints onto triangle-shaped paper, then add seeds and a rind for a smooth process.

Another bonus is that looking back on them later lets you appreciate how much the children have grown.

yo-yo

Hook a water-filled balloon on your finger and boing-boing…

Try making a cute, colorful yo-yo wall decoration! It’s super simple to make—just cut out balloon shapes and stick them onto a blue backing paper that looks like a fish tank, and you’re done.

You can download balloon templates, or of course cut them yourself and draw your own designs.

If you have the kids draw the patterns, the wall decoration might turn out even livelier! Make lots of them and fill your room with summer vibes!

Fireworks on a scratchboard

Brilliant, large blooms lighting up summer nights! How about making a fireworks wall decoration using scratch boards? A scratch board is an item where you scrape the surface with a special pen to reveal the color underneath and draw a picture.

Before scraping, the entire surface is black, which perfectly matches the image of a night sky lit by fireworks.

The basic technique is to draw lines of light radiating outward from the center.

That said, with a little creativity, you can create all kinds of fireworks.

Try coming up with designs that kids will love!

ghost

As an August wall display idea, a ghost-themed design is recommended.

In summer, ghost stories and pretend-play with ghosts are popular among children, so they’re likely to enjoy wall decorations too.

Ghost-themed decor is also distinctive and offers plenty of items that even young children can work on.

For example, you could use ghost-shaped cutout templates and have the children draw faces on them.

The ghosts with cute expressions will be unique and help create a fun space where you can play together with the kids.

Surrounded by friendly ghosts, you can enjoy a cool, refreshing atmosphere that helps you forget the heat—and maybe even share a few light ghost stories.

sunflower

Sunflowers are one of the quintessential flowers of summer.

A wall design themed around sunflowers not only evokes the heat of the season but also gives off a cheerful, energetic vibe.

By featuring sunflowers stretching toward the sun on the wall, you can express children’s growth and positive spirit.

Adding insects and small birds around the sunflowers will further enhance the feeling of summer traditions.

Let’s create a summertime atmosphere where children can spend their days full of energy with a sunflower wall design that lifts the spirits just by looking at it.

Crab Origami Craft

How about folding cute origami crabs that evoke the feel of summer beaches and rivers, and decorating the wall with them? You could use colored construction paper, but it’s also fun to fold them with kids using simple origami steps and stick lots of crabs onto a large sheet of paper.

It would be cute to add summer water-themed items like parasols and float rings that suggest the sea or rivers.

We usually picture crabs as red, but making them in various colors with colorful origami paper would be adorable too!

Fish made with paper plates

Here’s a paper-plate fish craft idea that lets you enjoy a hallway or classroom that feels like an aquarium.

All you need are paper plates, doilies, and origami paper.

First, use the paper plate as the fish’s body and create the eyes and mouth with origami paper.

Next, cut the doily to make the dorsal fin and tail fin.

You can also substitute fruit netting for the dorsal and tail fins.

This gives it a look somewhat like a tropical fish.

Even this alone creates an ocean vibe, but making seaweed out of raffia tape (Suzuran tape) will enhance the underwater feel even more.
