SUPER JUNKY MONKEY “Buckin’ the Bolts” LIVE(with lyrics)
Buckin' the BoltsSUPER JUNKY MONKEY

Super Junky Monkey, the pinnacle of Japan’s all-female heavy rock/mixture bands that the country proudly presents to the world! Formed in 1991, they pursued a global path early on by performing live overseas, and made their major-label debut in 1993.

They distilled the contemporaneous mixture sound into their own brand of heaviness; their stunning musicianship, powerful vocals, and explosive live performances were truly peerless, marking them as a band with immense promise.

Sadly, in 1999, their frontwoman and vocalist MUTSUMI623 (Mutsumi Takahashi) suddenly passed away.

Ten years later, in 2009, the three remaining members held a memorial concert, and the following year they performed at Fuji Rock.

Even into the 2020s, though intermittently, they continue to be an active, legendary girls’ band.

The three albums they released in the ’90s are all masterpieces that vacuum-seal the alternative spirit of that era, brimming with their remarkable individuality and talent.

If you’re looking for an awesome girls’ band, be sure to check them out!

SURFACE / Balance Last Attraction Final Live 2010
BalanceSURFACE

SURFACE is a male duo who made their major debut in 1998.

Many of their songs have been used as theme songs for TV dramas and anime, so plenty of people have probably heard their name.

Their song “Balance” portrays a man who pretends not to notice a woman’s lies, singing about the ambiguous balance between the two.

Even when the other person’s suspicious actions are clearly in the wrong, if the one who’s hopelessly in love pretends not to notice, the relationship can keep going, right? The lyrics capture that frustrating, bittersweet feeling of love.

Long live penalty points!Sano ibuki

Singer-songwriter Sano ibuki, known for a style that channels influences from Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire into pop music.

He has released many technically demanding songs, and among them, “Batten Banzai” is particularly difficult.

In this piece, falsetto appears in the chorus.

It’s not just about hitting high notes; you have to deliver the falsetto with a slightly sweet tone, so beyond pitch, a high level of dynamic control is also required.
