Pela Luz dos Olhos TeusMiúcha, Antonio Carlos Jobim

A supreme duet performed by Brazil’s bossa nova masters Antônio Carlos Jobim and Miúcha.

Breathing life into the poetry of Vinicius de Moraes, this work is a beautiful ballad that expresses the depth of love through the light in a lover’s eyes.

Included on the album “Miúcha & Antônio Carlos Jobim,” released in July 1977, it fully showcases the charm of bossa nova.

Beloved by many over the years, it’s a perfect track to set the mood for a pleasant evening, serving as ideal background music for time spent with someone special.

It was included on Antonio Carlos Jobim’s final album.

I’ve heard the title carries a meaning like “foolish.” The high, husky, languid vocals lead you into a strangely beautiful world.

Lugar comumGilberto Gil

Bossa nova was born in the 1950s and sparked its first boom.

This traditional genre of Brazilian music receded from the forefront of popular trends in the 1960s as rock ’n’ roll, soul music, and psychedelic music flowed into Brazil.

Then, from the late 1960s, the Tropicália movement began releasing a succession of bossa nova works that incorporated rock and soul.

At the center of that movement was the musician Gilberto Gil.

His performance of “Lugar Comum” is a number that was innovative within the bossa nova of the 1960s.

Wanda de Sá, renowned for her whispery vocals, has undeniably left a significant impact on later female singers.

Vagamundi is a track from her debut album, and one of its highlights is the participation of numerous major musicians in the recording.

Os Cariocas had been active as a vocal group long before bossa nova was born.

This track, with its excellent horn arrangement, gains an even more dazzling atmosphere thanks to the participation of Ismael Neto with the male group.

The group Nouvelle Vague, which breathed new life into the French music scene, sparked attention with the tracks on their album “Nouvelle Vague,” released in May 2004, thanks to a novel approach: arranging post-punk and new wave classics in a bossa nova style.

Suffused with a quiet, melancholic mood, the work centers on the difficulty of expressing emotions that defy words, suggesting that at times silence can be the most powerful means of communication.

Featured in the films “In Time” and “Newness,” as well as the series “Dirty Lines,” this piece stands as a quintessential example of Nouvelle Vague’s distinctive sound, capturing the hearts of many music fans.

Quarteto em Cy, famous as four sisters and a four-voice chorus group.

This track, included on an album where the Tamba Trio provides the performance, was composed by Gilberto Gil.

The lyrics sing of love and pride for the state of Bahia, and the women are in fact from that region.
