There are many subgenres of dance music that use electronic sounds, and among what’s commonly called techno music, one genre said to have emerged from “gabber”—a style classified as one of the hardcore techno forms that appeared in the early 1990s—is the focus of this article: breakcore.
While it has some basic characteristics—such as reconstructing sampled material to the point of being unrecognizable and using high-speed breakbeats—it’s interesting that the style becomes highly subdivided depending on the artist.

Nasenbluten is an Australian recording and performance group.
Formed in 1992 by three DJs, they are regarded as pioneers of hardcore techno, gabber, and cheapcore music in Australia.
Look Out Fi LiarAaron Spectre
Aaron Spectre, also known as the founder of Drumcorps, grew up in Massachusetts and began producing ambient, jungle, and drum & bass tracks after moving to New York.
After relocating to Berlin, Germany in 2003, he released numerous tracks and found success in the breakcore scene.
SparkMochipet ft. Mr. Lif
A collaboration between Mochipet, a Taiwan-born, US-based producer, and Mr.
Lif, a hip-hop artist from Boston, USA.
This 2015 track is praised for its cool balance of breakcore beats and rap.
Addicted to youAlec Empire
A track by Alec Empire, a German musician active since 1990 and also known as a founding member of Atari Teenage Riot.
It is included on the 2001 album “Intelligence and Sacrifice.” The track samples sounds from the film “The Matrix.”
