Formed in 1994 and debuting in 1999, the four-piece rock band BUMP OF CHICKEN has captured our hearts and steadily grown in popularity.

They’ve also provided theme songs for moving films and are now loved by a wide audience.

They are a presence that has had a tremendous impact on the Japanese rock scene, and the unique world crafted by Motoo “Fujikun” Fujiwara never fails to feel profoundly deep.

From those who raced through their youth with BUMP’s songs to those who’ve only recently started to like them, we’ve gathered wonderful tracks you’ll definitely want to hear—let’s enjoy them together!

This is the B-side track of the 12th single, “Namida no Furusato,” and it’s a highly popular song for its straightforward content.

It also comes with a lovely story: a member who had fallen into a slump was so moved by the sight of a crimson sunset sky that they impulsively wrote the song.

AuroraBUMP OF CHICKEN

It’s a song with a fantasy vibe.

When you listen, it makes you feel as if you’ve become the story’s protagonist.

As the hero, you’ll want to move right away, to set off on an adventure.

It gives you that same excitement as the start of a game.

Incidentally, it features techno sounds, which is rare for BUMP.

It was released in March 2019 and was also used as the theme song for the drama The Good Wife.

Song of the WheelsBUMP OF CHICKEN

It’s a song with a unique worldview told from the perspective of a bicycle wheel.

From the wheel’s viewpoint, it portrays cityscapes and life itself.

Through its relationship with everyday items like a bag and the bicycle, it shows someone living the same unchanging days.

It gives you a strange feeling, as if you’re watching someone else’s life.

Just by listening, it feels like you’re setting off on a journey.

The gentle voice of the vocalist—one of BUMP OF CHICKEN’s signature traits—soothes you.

It begins with the soft tones of an acoustic guitar, gradually becomes more rhythmic, and builds up toward a climactic finish.

Rather than a stable rhythm, it deliberately uses irregular tempos to convey a unique worldview.

This track was released in July 2019.

Telephoto MarchBUMP OF CHICKEN

This is a song I want to listen to when I’m giving it my all or when I can’t afford to lose.

It’s a cheer song for everyone moving forward.

Let’s receive its encouragement.

The repeated phrase “Let’s go” is shouted with full force, making you feel powered up.

The melody is fast and exhilarating, giving a sense of speed and pushing you to stay positive.

It was released in July 2018 and was used as the commercial song for Yo-kai Watch World.

Lost ManBUMP OF CHICKEN

Lost ManBUMP OF CHICKEN

It’s a song whose powerful chorus, embodying the resolve to move forward, really lingers in the heart.

It’s included on Yggdrasil, the album said to be from the period when vocalist Motoo Fujiwara was at his most emotionally turbulent, and I think you can feel his strong conviction when you read the lyrics.

Even though the melody isn’t sad, it still brings tears to your eyes.

sailing dayBUMP OF CHICKEN

Sailing day, released in 2004.

If you only know the current BUMP, you should give it a listen.

You’ll find a younger, faster BUMP there.

It’s what you might call easy-to-listen rock.

It’s a song that lets you feel the value of living earnestly and the importance of holding on to dreams.

It also helps you realize that you yourself are irreplaceable.
