Prepare some fun activities and gently loosen up bodies that got sluggish over the winter! This time, we’re introducing “Ping-Pong Ball Catch.” Attach strips of duct tape in a grid pattern across a hula hoop, then have someone hold it with the sticky side facing up.

From a distance, throw ping-pong balls and have them catch the balls on the taped area.

Adjust the size of the hoop according to participants’ abilities so everyone can enjoy it.

It also serves as upper-limb training while you play, making it a great recommendation for recreational activities in senior care facilities.

By including activities that can be done while seated, how about reducing resistance to exercise even just a little? For PET bottle target-shooting, combine a cut plastic bottle or a plastic cup with a balloon to launch a ball toward the target.

It works well to stack paper cups to create the targets.

With focused aiming, you’ll likely knock down all the targets and feel great!

Games that everyone cooperates on really get people interacting and create a lively atmosphere.

This time, we’d like to introduce “Paper Core Relay,” a game with simple movements that anyone can enjoy.

Prepare a long table, and have both teams sit along the sides.

Stretch a strip of plastic ribbon (suzuran tape) from end to end, and have the first and last players hold each end of the tape.

At the start signal, the first player begins threading paper cores onto the tape one after another.

The team that sends even one more paper core than the opposing team within the time limit wins.

It’s also fun to plan strategies together!

Here’s a game that treats plastic bags like little ghosts.

Have older adults sit in chairs and use a stick made from newspaper to scoop up plastic bags placed on the floor.

Then have them place the scooped bags into a bowl set on the chair.

This game helps strengthen the biceps on the front of the upper arm.

It’s perfect for people who find it difficult to bring food to their mouth with a spoon, too.

Since it uses familiar items, it’s easy to do in short breaks.

Because they’re “ghosts,” it could be fun to add eyes and a mouth to the plastic bags.

It’s also great as a Halloween-season activity.

It’s important to perform the motions accurately, but if you focus too much on that, your movements can become stiff—so enjoying the music is also essential for smooth motion.

By keeping proper sitting posture in mind as you go, you can further enhance the effectiveness of the movements.

Place paper or plastic cups on a table.

Then have the older adults who are seated try to get a ping-pong ball into the cups.

They can throw the ball or bounce it—either is fine.

It’s also nice to think about different ways to get the ball into the cup and approach it like a game.

Grasping the ping-pong ball may help train finger strength as well.

It’s a simple game, but it’s delightful when the ball lands in a cup, and it can be refreshing, too.

Some of you may have played golf back when you were working at a company.

Let us introduce the Mountain Cup, an activity that can bring back those memories.

As the name suggests, the course is shaped like a mountain.

Place a basket in the center, and lay plastic or cardboard boards—on which a ball can roll—over the top.

Make a hole in the center of the board, and roll the ball as you would in golf to get it into the central hole.

It’s easier to enjoy indoors than ground golf or gateball.

It’s likely to be fun for many older adults.
