Tanabata Sweets ~Milky Way~NEW!

With Orihime and Hikoboshi making appearances and the Milky Way as a key theme, Tanabata gives us a strong image of a deep connection with the starry sky.

This plan is about making starry-sky-inspired sweets to build excitement for the event.

We’ll make a jelly using agar, creating a gradient by skillfully using shades of blue to evoke the atmosphere of a night sky.

The steps are simple—just mix the ingredients and let them set—so the ease of participation is another point that will help everyone enjoy the activity.

The Tale of Tanabata-samaNEW!

Speaking of big events in July, Tanabata is a traditional festival told alongside a romantic story.

Let’s take a moment to recall what that story was, so we can deepen our connection to it.

Don’t just listen to a reading—pause at points like the characters’ names and turn it into a quiz to add an element of thinking.

If there are parts you remembered incorrectly or didn’t know, share them and get everyone excited together.

Flowing Ball GameNEW!

Flowing Ball GameNEW!

Tanabata is an important event in July, and since the Milky Way is an essential element of Tanabata, it also evokes the image of flowing water.

Focusing on that flowing water, this game has players send balls rolling as if they were flowing somen noodles, and others try to catch them.

The rules are simple: scoop the rolling balls with a ladle and compete to see how many you can place into a basket.

You can adjust the difficulty by changing the angle and making other tweaks.

Another recommended variation is to roll capsules containing pieces of paper; the papers list prizes, which should make things even more exciting as players aim carefully.

Introducing how to make Tanabata bamboo for wall decorations! “Tanabata Wall Decorations: Part 5” Why not enjoy Tanabata by making simple bamboo with origami? [Tsukuru Mon]
Tanabata decorationsNEW!

Let’s make a Tanabata-themed wall display by hanging ornaments from paper-crafted bamboo branches.

This piece mainly explains how to make the bamboo leaves; it doesn’t include instructions for the ornaments.

For ornaments, please refer to the related videos featuring “Lanterns,” “Net Decorations,” “Shell Ornaments & Shell Garlands,” and “Streamers.” There are some detailed steps, but basically you just cut out the parts, paste them, and assemble—so older adults can enjoy working on it too.

If you increase the volume of the bamboo, you could even hang tanzaku with written wishes.

I want more snacks… With such a cute wish, it just might come true!

Snack activity: Tanabata jelly

On July 2, we made Tanabata jelly during our cooking activity. The blue and white contrast is incredibly cute, and the cool, refreshing jelly lifts my spirits even while I'm plating it.Elderly care facilityTranslation#WelfareCaregiver#IWantToBeOnTheRecommendationsRecreationElderlyTanabata#Caregiver'sDailyLife#HealingTsukuba Cityjelly#HandmadeSnackssnack

In July, there’s an event called Tanabata.

Tanabata features legends about the Milky Way, Hikoboshi, and Orihime—stars and constellations that shine in the night sky.

Let’s try making a jelly inspired by Tanabata.

For the night sky, we’ll make a jelly using Blue Hawaii shaved ice syrup.

For the stars, it might be nice to add pieces of cut fruit.

Put the set jelly and fruit into cups, and it’s done.

Since it can be made while sitting at a table, many older adults should be able to participate.

Working together may also spark conversations with the people around you.

When it comes to indoor activities that still feel summery, “Tanabata Quiz” is a great choice.

It brings the July highlight of Tanabata closer to everyone, so it’s highly recommended.

Prepare several questions related to Tanabata and present them on paper or on a screen.

Adding a time limit turns it into brain exercise and gives participants the thrill of wondering whether they can answer in time.

It’s also nice to give a prize to the person with the most correct answers.

Older adults can join in easily, so give it a try!

Let’s cross the Milky Way! Game

This is a group activity where participants work in pairs to pass a ball across a vinyl sheet representing the Milky Way, using two sticks to prevent it from falling.

There are balls of various sizes, and once they reach the other side of the river, they spread the sticks apart to drop the ball into a box below to score, which requires fine motor adjustments.

Using both the head and hands to make these adjustments contributes to rehabilitation.

Incorporating seasonal recreation also has the benefit of helping participants feel the sense of the season more closely.
