Christmas wrapping ideas using paper bags (1–10)
mini-mini paper bag

Here’s a handmade idea for a small paper bag shaped like a tote.
You can easily make it with origami paper and the like.
First, fold back one edge slightly, overlap the opposite edge, and glue to form a bag shape.
For the bottom, crease according to the gusset width you want, then squash the open sections inward and glue the remaining top and bottom flaps together.
Trim a little off the top of the bag with scissors, and use the trimmed piece to make the handles.
Fold the top edge of the bag slightly inward, attach the handles over that fold, and you’re done! It’s a handy idea for handing out small treats like candies or ramune sweets.
Fan-shaped wrapping

When wrapping with a paper bag, just folding the top and sealing it with a sticker can sometimes feel a bit underwhelming.
Here’s a great idea for those times: a striking wrap with the top of the bag fanned out.
It’s easy to make—accordion-fold the top of the bag and staple the center.
Then bring both ends toward the middle and staple them in place, and you’re done! If the hole in the center bothers you, try attaching a message card or tying a ribbon over it.
3D gift box

This is a three-dimensional gift box made of paper.
It’s a handy idea for when a paper bag feels a bit too flimsy.
Fold a small section along one edge of the paper to create a glue tab, then overlap and fold the opposite edge.
Round off both ends with scissors, open it up, and draw curved lines along all the rounded sections.
Make sure the curves face inward.
Next, add four small curved notches at the edges in the same places, and cut only two of them with scissors.
Use the glue tab you made first to form the paper into a bag shape, then fold the paper inward along the curved lines you drew—and you’re done!

A paper bag made from drawing paper with see-through contents

Here’s a wrapping idea using construction paper that lets you see what’s inside.
First, prepare a sheet of construction paper cut into a rectangle.
Make creases to create gussets and a flap, then form it into a bag.
Draw hearts or stars on the front of the bag and cut them out as windows.
Attach the gift on the inside, punch holes so that they go through both the flap and the front piece, and finally thread a ribbon through and tie it to finish.
It’s perfect for small gifts, like little Christmas presents.
It’s simple but very cute, so give it a try!
Mini gift bag

Perfect for when you want to upcycle your favorite paper bags! Here are ideas for mini gift bags.
Fold a rectangular sheet of paper to create crease lines in a 4×8 grid.
Then fold the surrounding 12 squares so that the central 4 squares form a square box.
The remaining section will serve as the lid.
Punch holes in the lid area and thread a ribbon through to complete your gift box! If you’re concerned about the raw edge of the lid, cover it with another piece of paper and glue it down.
Paper bag made with two sheets of origami paper

Here’s an idea for a paper bag made by attaching two sheets of origami paper together.
Stick the origami sheets together with double-sided tape or similar, and form them into a bag.
Crease the sides and the bottom to create gussets, and fold the bottom closed.
Finally, attach handles to the inside of the top edge of the bag to finish.
Since the entire bag is made of origami paper and isn’t very sturdy, use light handles such as jute twine.
You can use the same color for both sheets, or make it bi-colored for a cute look.
Add a ribbon, tag, or header at the end to make it stylish!
gusseted paper bag

When you want a gusseted paper bag, most people look for one to buy, but you can actually make one easily! Prepare the paper you want to use for the bag.
Fold a small strip along one edge to create a glue tab, overlap the opposite edge, and adhere it.
Now you have a tube.
Next, create crease lines so gussets form on the left and right sides, then align those creases and make valley folds.
Fold up the bottom of the bag to the width you want for the gusset, open the bottom, and squash-fold the left and right sides inward.
Finally, fold the excess top and bottom flaps inward and glue them to finish.
