Do you think making a fresh wreath seems like a hassle and too difficult? In fact, anyone can make one easily and enjoyably—it’s cost-effective and, above all, stylish! You can even get a wreath base at a 100-yen shop, which makes it super convenient.

Prepare fresh cedar or cypress foliage, and use jute twine soaked in water to secure the fresh leaves to the wreath base.

If you only use the tips of the plants, the wreath can lose depth, so the trick is to also use the base of the foliage to add movement.

If you enjoy handmade crafts, you may already know that you can make a variety of items using craft bands.

Craft bands are paper cords that were once used to tie the tops of rice bags, and lately more people have been using them to handmake bags, storage cases, and various decorations.

Craft band projects are created by weaving, and for wreaths, the “scale weave” method is recommended.

Once the wreath is finished, just add your favorite decorations and it’s complete.

Use red and green for Christmas, or red and white for New Year’s to make the perfect seasonal piece.

It’s also fun to make them in different color schemes to match each season.

Poinsettia wreath

Let’s make a poinsettia wreath using a paper plate.

Cut out a circle from the center and use the outer ring as the wreath.

Then, attach poinsettias made from origami paper to create a Christmas wreath.

If you make leaves in various sizes and arrange them so they spread out from the base, it will look more realistic.

Don’t forget the yellow center, either.

You can also make wreaths for different seasons by attaching seasonal flowers, not just for Christmas.

On a chilly day at home, enjoy this craft with your child for some cozy parent–child time.

A wreath made with lace paper

How about making a festive paper plate wreath using lace? You’ll need a paper plate, ribbon, a green marker or paint, glue, lace, and Santa Claus decorations.

First, color the ridged outer rim of the paper plate green.

Next, stick a ribbon at the top, then press a round paper lace doily onto the plate.

Add a folded triangular origami Santa with a drawn face or other decorations, and it’s done.

It’s a wreath, but there’s no need to cut out the center, so it’s nice and easy to make!
