[2026] Eerie BGM That Stokes Fear | Compilation
One of the most indispensable elements for creating fear is the background music (BGM).
Whether it’s environmental sounds or the distorted tones of ominous strings, that kind of BGM really stirs up fear, doesn’t it?

“Cell” from the film Parasite EveHisaishi Joe

From the soundtrack of the 1997 Japanese film Parasite Eve.
It is memorably used in the scene where, after overcoming a tragic accident, the protagonist loses his sanity and the story finally shifts into full-on horror.
The music is by Joe Hisaishi, renowned for his Studio Ghibli works.
Here, you can witness a completely different side of his talent from the soothing melodies he’s best known for.
MantraPopol Vuh

This is a piece used in the German film Nosferatu, a 1922 release that pioneered vampire horror and was remade in 1978.
While it has no big developments or showy expressions, the arrangement, which makes full use of the resonance and timbre of the strings, evokes a European sense of grandeur.
It’s so beautiful that it amply expands the image of the vampire—and it’s horror.
Emily RoseKurisutofā Yangu

The horror film Emily Rose is based on a real incident that actually happened in the United States.
This is its theme song, and since the story is drawn from real events rather than fiction, it’s all the more frightening.
Centered around the piano, this track builds the film’s atmosphere, and as you listen, you’re gradually pulled deeper into its world.

Saturday Wide Theater ‘Diabolic Sequence’Katakura Mikiya
I get chills remembering the opening visuals with the flashing spotlights.
The main theme that evokes a sense of madness is striking.
The way it converges into the serene second theme shows true brilliance.
In one section, they even reduce the number of strings to change the sound pressure, showcasing a playful touch befitting a maverick.
Go Go Ghost ShipYonezu Kenshi

Speaking of Halloween and ghosts, I recommend giving Kenshi Yonezu’s “Go Go Yureisen” (“Go Go Ghost Ship”) a listen.
He’s especially popular among younger listeners, but since this track is a bit niche, many people might not know it.
Its eerie, ominous guitar sound is perfect for Halloween.
Main titleDaniel Elfman

The theme song from the 1988 horror-comedy film “Beetlejuice.” Its off-beat rhythm, hectic approach that evokes comedy, and eerie atmosphere make it a perfect fit for Halloween night, don’t you think?
Bela Lugosi’s DeadBauhaus

Bauhaus is a British band said to be pioneers of gothic rock.
Their gothic vibe is perfect for Halloween.
Among Bauhaus’s songs, I chose this one, where the sobbing guitar sound feels raw and painful, with a sense of dread.
