balloon flowerNEW!

A cute flower you can make with just balloons in various colors and a paper plate! Cut five slits in the paper plate and make a hole in the center.
Then simply tuck the tied ends of inflated balloons into the slits.
It’s easiest to start inserting the balloons from the center.
Try arranging the balloons however you like—change the color of the center versus the outer balloons, or make every balloon a different color.
When hanging it on the wall, secure a rubber band to the wall using masking tape shaped like a sharp sign (#), then thread the rubber band through one of the flower’s balloon “petals” to help keep it from falling.
party hatNEW!

Let’s use drawing paper or cardstock and some yarn to make essential party hats for a celebration.
First, cut the drawing paper or cardstock into a shape that can be rolled into a cone, then roll it up to form the cone.
Next, wrap yarn around three aligned fingers about 70–80 times.
Slide the yarn bundle off your fingers and tie the center with an extra piece of yarn.
Cut the loops on both the top and bottom to make a pom-pom for the tip of the party hat.
Attach it to the top of the cone-shaped hat you made first, and it’s done! Make them in wearable sizes so that all the older adults participating can put them on, too!
party flagNEW!

Recommended when you want to decorate the venue easily! Since it’s simple to make, have older adults help while you work together.
First, when using 15 cm × 15 cm origami paper, cut each sheet into quarters.
Fold each piece into a triangle and open it, then fold both sides toward the crease you just made.
For the remaining section, fold it once and open it, then fold it again along the new crease and leave it in that folded state.
Make as many as you need.
When you’re done, place a string in the part you folded last and fold it over twice to secure it.
Repeat this for the number of origami pieces and the desired string length, and you’re finished! Tape the ends of the string to the wall as is, and decorate.
paper fanNEW!

By making them in various colors and sizes, you can easily decorate the venue! Cut a rectangular sheet of construction paper in half, then accordion-fold each piece.
Once done, glue them together to form a loop.
Prepare a piece of thick paper (card stock) that matches the circumference of the circle you’ll create with the construction paper, place the looped paper inside it, and press the center to open it up.
Glue a circle-cut piece of paper to the center, then remove the thick paper around the circumference to finish! When making larger sizes, also attach a circular piece of paper to the center on the back.
By sticking them in various places at random, you’ll create a stylish venue.
Handmade kusudama (decorative paper ball)NEW!

When you want to throw a lively celebration for someone’s birthday, a kusudama (party ball) really comes in handy! Prepare two disposable bowl-shaped containers you can buy at 100-yen shops and stick gold origami paper on their sides.
Align the rims of the two bowls and secure part of them firmly with tape.
Punch three holes in each bowl; thread a string through four of those holes to hang it from the top.
Wrap the top of the pop-out message around a straw, thread a string through it, and pass it through the remaining holes in the bowl.
Then, place ribbons or confetti you want to burst out along with the message into the bowl, attach the pull string, close it up, and you’re done! When you pull the final string, the inside opens and the celebratory message pops out.
Strawberry Cake Gift BoxNEW!

It’s also a wonderful idea for a handmade-feel gift.
First, cut white origami paper in half and use six pieces to make the cake lid.
Crease the paper, fold up the corners in sequence, fold up to meet the point where the opposite edge was folded, then fold up along the second line from the bottom.
Pop out the corners to make a square.
Fold the base in the same way, and when you combine it with the lid, the cake shape is complete.
Finally, make strawberries and decorations out of origami and place them on top to create a cute, decorated cake box.
The folding process is fun, and the sense of accomplishment when it’s finished and its festive look are appealing, making it recommended for handmade gifts and events at senior facilities.
birthday cakeNEW!

Even if you prepare a birthday cake to eat, it will naturally be gone once you’ve eaten it.
But if you make one out of construction paper and stick it on the wall, the birthday cake will stay as a decoration forever! Picture the design of the cake you want to make, and cut the necessary construction paper into your preferred shapes.
Then just assemble everything and stick it on the wall to finish! Not only whole cakes, but also sliced cakes and cupcakes—decorating with a variety will make the venue even more festive.
Birthday decorationsNEW!

The “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” letters are a must for birthday decorations, but when it comes time to make them, it’s easy to get stuck on how to start.
Here, we’re introducing digital-style letter decorations made by expressing each character with origami.
You’ll need two sheets of origami paper per letter, making the top and bottom separately and then combining them.
Letters like “H” and “A” can be made by combining simple folds.
“Y” and “T” use slightly unusual folds, but once you get used to them, they’re very straightforward and easy to make.
Once you master the method, you can adapt it to other letters of the alphabet, so give it a try!
wreathNEW!

When it comes to classic birthday party decorations, paper chains are a must! Many seniors have probably made them before.
Let’s make lots of paper chains and decorate the venue in vibrant colors.
Use origami cut into long, narrow strips that are one-eighth size.
To make one-eighth size, cut the origami sheet in half horizontally, then cut it in half two more times.
Apply glue to one end of a strip, overlap it with the other end, and make a ring.
Thread another strip through the ring and connect the rings one after another.
If you use different colors for adjacent rings, you’ll get bright, colorful chains.
It’s very easy, so please work together to make them!
Heart decorationNEW!

This is a heart decoration that looks festive even with just a few materials.
First, fold the origami toward you three times, then cut it into thin, even strips.
Turn only one strip so the colored side faces out, and arrange the rest so the white side shows.
Next, layer two strips and lightly staple them together, then keep stacking them in order while paying attention to which side shows the color.
Repeat this process.
You’ll end up with a three-dimensional, charming heart decoration that instantly adds warmth and brightness when hung on a wall or door.
Because it involves fine hand movements, it’s a fun and recommended activity for older adults as well.
