Koinobori garland

Carp streamers swimming majestically in the refreshing May sky.
These days, fewer households put up carp streamers.
Some older adults may remember raising them for their children.
Here, we introduce a felt carp streamer garland that may bring back those memories.
Cut felt into the shape of carp streamers and into parts like scales and eyes, then attach them.
The steps are mostly simple, so many seniors can likely take part in making them.
If you attach strings to the felt carp streamers and put them on the wall, older adults can also feel the fresh breezes of May.
Bouquet of sunflowers

Introducing a felt sunflower bouquet that hints at the coming of summer.
Sunflowers are known for their overlapping yellow petals and their distinctive brown, textured centers.
You can capture these features beautifully through the way you cut and roll the felt.
Fold a narrow felt strip in half, make small cuts along the edge, then roll it up—this will form the center of the sunflower.
For the petals, take a long, narrow strip of felt, fold it several times, snip along the edge, shape it, and cut it to size.
Attach the two parts along with leaves and a stem to complete the flower.
Wrap it in kraft paper to make a bouquet.
It’s also great without stems as parts for wreaths or hanging decorations.
Older adults can take them home and display them in their rooms for a lovely touch.
Swirly Rose

Roses are flowers that are well-received as gifts.
It varies by variety, but since they bloom year-round, it’s nice that you can see them anytime.
Let’s try making such a luxurious rose using only felt.
They look gorgeous, so they’re also great as presents.
The method is very simple: cut the felt according to the steps, then take the pieces you cut the same way and roll them up—your rose is complete.
Add pearls and a stem to make it look more realistic.
Making lots of them and displaying them in a clear box would be lovely, too.
cherry blossom garland

Because cherry blossoms can only be seen for a brief moment, many people want to savor that special feeling.
Since they bloom only during a set time in spring, some people may miss them.
For those people, a cherry blossom garland you can display in your room is a great option.
You can enjoy hanami at home anytime.
All you need are felt, a hot glue gun, scissors, and some beads.
First, make small cuts in the felt with scissors, then glue to form three-dimensional petals.
Then roll it up and add a bead, and in no time your cherry blossom is complete.
Make about five of these; you can also customize them with traditional Japanese patterns and other touches to create a stylish cherry blossom garland.
No-sew felt hanging decoration

The no-sew felt hanging ornaments are lovely pieces that give a warm, cozy feel.
Use 5.5 cm × 4 cm felt and chirimen fabric scraps to make small birds.
Adding metallic yarn creates a neat accent and makes them look festive.
For the eyes, simply paint rhinestones black for an easy solution.
Use small pieces of pink, white, and green felt to make hishi-mochi, and use small oval felt pieces and chirimen scraps to make zori sandals.
After crafting three-dimensional cherry blossoms, use a bamboo skewer and embroidery thread to assemble them into hanging ornaments.
Soft-colored felt and chirimen fabrics blend well with interior decor, so they’re recommended.

Hina dolls

March 3 is Hinamatsuri, the Doll Festival.
There has long been a custom of displaying hina dolls to pray for children’s healthy growth.
It’s also a day when people enjoy dishes like chirashi sushi, clear clam soup, and hina-arare.
This time, we’ll make hina dolls out of felt.
Simply cut the felt according to the pattern, glue the pieces together, draw faces on wooden beads, and attach them—the project comes together in no time.
A handmade set of hina dolls will delight your grandchildren or someone special.

When winter arrives, you want to spend your time surrounded by items that feel warm, don’t you? Felt items are perfect for gently warming a chilly heart.
They feel nice to the touch and are just right for the season.
Today, I’ll introduce heart-shaped coasters.
Doesn’t the heart motif make you think of someone special? They’re also great to make as a gift for that person.
Simply prepare red and pink felt, make slits in each, and interweave or stick them together to finish.
Adding a stylish item like this to your usual tea time will double the fun.
