Spring Garland

We’d like to introduce a felt garland that’s perfect for Hinamatsuri events or as a March wall decoration.
We’ll make spring-themed parts out of felt, such as bush warblers, peaches, and plum blossoms.
Cut the felt into the shapes of the parts and glue them together with a hot glue gun.
Hot glue guns are characterized by fast bonding and strong adhesion.
They also get very hot, so consider having staff members handle them or otherwise take precautions.
Creating a garland that captures the colors of spring will help older adults feel the season as well.
Easy Crepe

A crepe topped with lots of fruit.
Some senior care facilities may have made crepes during snack-time recreation, right? Here’s how to make a colorful, delicious-looking crepe out of felt.
Cut felt into shapes for the crepe batter and fruits like strawberries and kiwifruit.
For some fruits, layer and glue pieces of felt together.
It’s also recommended to make salad-style crepes with items like cheese and lettuce.
If you also make a crepe spreader (tonbo), you can experience a more authentic crepe-making activity.
It’s a project that’s fun to make, so it’s likely to spark lively conversation among seniors.
lily flower

How about making a lily using only felt and chenille stems? Cut your favorite color of felt into six petal shapes.
Create the stamen with light green and yellow chenille stems, then poke holes at the tips of the petals and thread them through.
Glue the pieces in place and shape them, and you’re done.
It could be fun to make original flowers by using felt in various colors or adding leaves to the stem.
Just like in the video, you can display them in a vase or arrange them into a bouquet as a gift—sure to be appreciated.
The steps are very simple, so older adults can also enjoy doing this activity.

Just cut and paste: felt Hina dolls

These are cute Hina dolls you can make using only items from a 100-yen shop.
Since they use spherical Styrofoam, the finished pieces have a plump, rounded look.
You’ll use chirimen fabric with adhesive on one side, and felt with double-sided tape applied.
Because there’s no sewing involved, it should be easy for older adults to try this craft as well.
If you make both the Emperor and Empress dolls, you’ll have a splendid Hina display.
It’s also lovely to decorate them by making a base from an empty box, for example.
Seeing the decorations might even help older adults recall Hinamatsuri celebrations spent with their families.
osmanthus (fragrant orange osmanthus; sweet olive)

Speaking of fragrant olive (osmanthus), it’s a popular flower known for its bright yellow blossoms and sweet scent.
How about making one with felt? All you need are small square pieces of yellow felt, flower stamens, and floral tape.
You can buy everything at a 100-yen shop! Cut slits into the yellow felt to form petal shapes and make a hole in the center.
Wrap wire around the flower stamens and attach them to the center of the flower.
Wrap with floral tape, add leaves, and you’re done! It turns out very cute, so it would make a lovely small bouquet gift.
Many older adults will surely find its charming look soothing.
Cut-and-paste hydrangea

When you think of vibrant flowers that brighten up the damp, muggy rainy season, hydrangeas come to mind, right? Here’s a simple craft that lets you make hydrangeas with ease! Create fluffy pom-poms from yarn, then attach felt pieces cut into flower shapes.
If cutting is difficult for some, staff can assist as needed while you proceed.
For the center of each flower, use pearl-style stickers available at 100-yen shops.
Just by adding these stickers, the flowers look even cuter.
Be sure to include this in your crafting activities to bring a splash of color to your room!
three-dimensional oni ornament

Here’s an introduction to making a cute oni (demon) out of felt.
Of course it’s perfect for Setsubun season, but it’s so adorable that it also makes a cheerful decorative piece for your room.
Once you’ve prepared the felt, use a compass to cut out circles.
Cut the circles in half and start creating each part.
Combine the finished parts, and you’ll have a three-dimensional, round body.
Next, make the oni’s face and attach it to the body to complete your cute oni! In addition to red and blue, using colors like yellow and green will make it even more vibrant.
Craft activities using felt are perfect for fine motor exercise.
They help build concentration and include brain-training elements, which can also aid in dementia prevention.
Give it a try with older adults!
