Oni made from paper plates

Let’s try making an Oni wall decoration using paper plates and construction paper! Since we’re using paper plates, it’s easy to give the ogre a three-dimensional look.
Tear your favorite color of construction paper—red, blue, etc.—into small pieces and paste them onto the paper plate.
The key to a neat finish is to stick the pieces closely together so that the white of the plate doesn’t show.
Next, use different construction paper to make the hair and facial features.
The angle of the eyebrows and where you place the parts will give each face its own personality! Even older adults who find it difficult to go out can enjoy the seasonal Setsubun atmosphere through this wall-art activity.
A demon with a cute see-through look in a transparent cup

How about a cute, translucent demon wall decoration that can also be used as a bean holder? All you need are two clear plastic cups, cellophane, and tissue paper.
Attach cut pieces of cellophane to one cup, then stack the other cup on top and secure them with tape.
Add the face and horn parts.
You can use round stickers for the eyes and cheeks to make it easy.
Make the hair with tissue paper, add a handle, and you’re done.
Thanks to the cellophane, it has an adorable see-through look.
After using it to hold beans or candy, enjoy it as a wall decoration!
Oni finger puppet

You can easily make a demon finger puppet with origami that lets you enjoy some movement.
All you need are single-sided foil origami paper, googly eyes, round stickers, a permanent marker, and so on.
For colors, using paper with a red or blue front and a gold back will give it a more ogre-like look.
First, fold the paper into triangles several times as if you were folding an origami crane, and you’ll quickly end up with a demon face with horns.
Next, attach the googly eyes and round stickers to create the face.
The finished demon looks cute worn on your fingertip as a finger puppet, or you can make several and use them as wall decorations!
den-den daiko (Japanese pellet drum)

This is an ogre-themed version of a den-den daiko (a hand drum toy you shake)! First, cut out the parts like the ogre’s face, hair, and horns.
Glue the round face piece onto thick paper, cut along the outline, then attach the other parts and draw the face details.
Secure a chopstick firmly to the back with tape, and make holes on both sides of the face.
Thread strings with crumpled aluminum foil balls through the holes and tie them, and it’s done! Since it’s just paper and aluminum foil, it won’t make sound, but the way the ogre’s face spins around is surprisingly cute—you might find yourself wanting to keep shaking it!
Setsubun hanging decoration

Hanging decorations featuring motifs like metal clubs, ogres (oni), and Otafuku are perfect ideas for decorating walls for Setsubun.
The materials are A4-size construction paper.
Cut red, blue, yellow, and other colors into strips 2 centimeters wide and 29 centimeters long.
Using the strip shown in the video as a substitute ruler makes the work easier.
After marking the appropriate colored paper for each motif using the strip, glue the pieces together and shape them.
Once you’ve made plenty of your favorite motifs, use string or paper tape to assemble the hanging decoration.
This is a great craft activity to incorporate into recreational sessions for older adults.
Oni ornament

Here’s an idea for a cute, stylized ogre (oni) ornament.
This one uses felt and yarn to make a cone-shaped ornament.
You can complete it without needles, using just scissors and a glue gun.
The charm of these oni ornaments is that each one can have its own personality.
For example, you can give the oni a specific expression when drawing the face, or change the color of the pants—there are lots of ways to customize them.
Once they’re finished, showing off your creations to each other will make it even more fun.

Perfectly round demon

Here are some ideas for making ogre (oni) decorations using construction paper and origami.
This project creates round-shaped oni, making it perfect if you want a cute wall display.
The process is simple: use a template to cut out the parts, then layer and glue them together.
For the pattern on the oni’s pants, tear origami paper into thin strips and apply them.
You can download the template from the video description.
Be sure to use it and try making Setsubun decorations.
Using a variety of colors will give you a bright, festive finish!
